Once again it's this time of year where SIU (in Carbondale, Illinois) and the Aviation Program and United Airlines team together to create a fantastic event for all aviation students both college and High school involved.
Basically, any High School student with an active interest in applying/attending SIU-C in Carbondale, Illinois can send an application in to be part of the event that takes place. Once a select amount of High School Students are picked, United Airlines generously flies them down to Carbondale, Illinois from Chicago-O'Hare. It used to be operated by the 737-300, but since retirement they have switched to the Airbus A320.
With the merger between CO/UA taking place, rumor was abuzz of which plane it actually would be, would it be a CO Plane, UA Plane, or what? It was once again confirmed it was a UA Aircraft, so imagine our shock to see the Friendship/Retro Livery selected as the aircraft to fly them down and grace Carbondale with a visit! It was VERY exciting and HUGE props to the folks at United, who I heard were SIU Alumuni in being able to get this bird to work this trip!
Also what was cool was Continental Employees who also were SIU alumuni were able to come down as well. So we had a mixed crew of United and Continental Folks on this trip, what a treat to see.
Now, enough talks and on to the pictures!

Finally a picture of me in front of the engine, secretly praying no one would hit the ON switch!

...and finally after the tour was done, I settled into the Jumpseat and was ready for my next trip!
Hope the pictures weren't too much, and if they were, sorry! A HUGE Thank you both to United/Continental Airlines and to SIU once again for working together to make a fantastic program for everyone involved.
Good things come to those who wait, better things come to those who go AFTER it!
