Lauda Air (now Austrian Airlines) is to increase its VIE-KUL-Australian run to 6 times a week following Malaysia Airlines departure from Vienna in May.

MAS will continue to code-share on the service and from October will operate with OS/MH flight numbers only.

But the flight will stop in KUL or continue to Australia or Denpasar??

Cause they use B772 on VIE-KUL-Australia routes 5 times and in the last rotation free on the VIE-BKK-DPS.
So if it fly to KUL it can't go to BKK/DPS.

The flight will be operated with a B777 and will continue to SYD. This will be as of mid-january 2002. DPS will be cancelled at the same time. BKK will be operated three times a week with B767.

Thanks for the information Smile

So now 4 weekly VIE-SYD and 2 weekly VIE-MEL.
OS (NG) is becoming an important operator in Europe/Australia flights!!!
They offer a very good product with a very interesting price. But for how long OS will keep B772 and B763 in their fleet??

I hope for long!!  Wow!

Why do airlines continue to concentrate on SYD? 4 flights to SYD and 2 to MEL really isnt a wise move, a 3 / 3 split is better overall. Frm what i heard from a Lauda staffer at MEL airport last month, MEL flights are doing much better than SYD flights, something like a 80 % load factor to MEL and 69 % to SYD. Even the front of the planes are getting more passengers than in SYD. I think it may be to do with their existing Headquaters position in SYD that is causing them to fly there more.

British Airways has realised their mistake and came back to MEL, more airlines now must see MEL / BRIS as a much better alternative.

Forgive my ignorance.

How does Lauda manage to deploy 2 772s to Australia 6 times a week.

Vienna-Australia-Vienna is 45 hours.
Assuming they rest in Vienna for 5 hours, that means than their turnaround to Australia must be 50 hours per plane.

Don't the 772s also fly to Miami via Munich.

They must have a great utilisation rate on the 772s.

Many thanks

G-KIRAN,
MAS terminated their own flights to Vienna about 2 months back - all are codeshared OS/NG services now.
