Daily News Update says that the IAM has filed with the NMB to represent Continental employees in ramp related areas. It also says that they have attempted this several times and that each time they have been rejected.

Is there enogh support for the IAM? Why is everyone dumping them? Is anyone foolish enough to want to join them or any other union for that matter at CO?

NO UNION FOR CO!!!!!

Thanks

Labour unions do not do much good these days, just take money from employees and inconvenience the public!

There already is a Union at Continental. Not sure if the Ramp agents have one, but I know the FA's do. My girlfriend is based at IAH and while she's a fairly high ranking FA, she isnt part of the union, and says that she isnt made to be uncomfortable about it

This is about the 3rd or 4th time that the IAM has held a vote to organize the ramp wokers. Each of the other times, they were overwhelmingly rejected. I've got a feeling they'll be overwhelmingly rejected this time as well.

Speaking of Continental Unions, what is the latest with their Pilots (the IACP merging with ALPA?)

The Continental ramp workers do not have a union. They been trying though for a long time now. I've been there about 3 years now and I've been hearing about it since day one. About 2 years ago we got enough cards together to have a votein Washington DC which you need 50% to vote yes for the union to go through. Only 29% voted yes. It was pretty pathetic. I wonder how miserable this next vote will be.

COboeing777? Is it the ramp workers themselves trying to go union or is it the union just trying to get more members? I do hope that there are too few votes in favor of union.

I have not been approached by anyone but I was told Northwest union rep would be the one to approach us.

thanks

It's just the union trying to make money. Like I said before fight them with all you've got. Don't let them sink those claws into you.

co/ba,
well there are a few die hards at EWR that have been pushing for the union ever since I started working there 3 years ago. They are always pushing union authorization cards on people, especially new hires. Hell, the first guy to ask me was one those die hards. This guy was even in some pro union video that was sent to my house touting how great the IAM is. From what I can tell Continental's hubs(EWR, IAH, CLE) are where all the pro union rampers are. Its the outstations that seem to not care about it. From people I know who work in smaller stations, it seems like they have it made so that may be why they don't really care for having a union. Me I really don't care whether the ramp ever gets a union since I plan on moving onto aircraft maintenance by next year when I receive my a & p ratings. Also remember that I believe ticket agents would be included with the ramp and represented together if the union were to come in. They may also be the reason why the vote was so low last time too.
As for the union itself trying to get more members, Im pretty sure they'd love that. That means more $$$ for them. So for them the more the merrier.

The IAM treated CO workers like lepers for a good decade, but ever since CO started to do well, and since pay has increased greatly in the last 5 years, they've been swarming CO like bees attracted to honey. They do represent many CO flight attendants, which is a pity.

Where were the unions all those years CO employees were suffering pay freezes and pay cuts, when the union could have made a difference? They didn't want to have any part of CO then, and CO rampers shouldn't want to have any part of them now.

I predict it'll be soundly defeated again this time around.

I am glad to be a part of the current CO. One of the reasons I chose CO over others was that there was no union for the ramp. I started just before the raises kicked in I think as far as wages and benifits CO is definitly on par with everyone else I don't see why I need to give my on-time bonus to IAM. Even by some wierd chain of events labor relations went south between CO and ramp the IAM is not going to pay my mortgage. They will just take my money and run.
