Does anyone know why SIN airport or airspace was closed yesterday (5th May)? I was on SQ217, we were number 5 for departure, and we sat on the taxiway for a while before we and all others in the queue returned to the gate. No details were given but a flight attendant mentioned the airspace being closed. We refueled and departed about 2 hours late.

Hi, I am also on MH 616 to KL departing at 19.15 , the flight was a bit late and we board at 19.10 then ask to get back to my gate. The MH flight attendant also describe similar problem something about Singapore airspace closing
Seems that the is a private flight from Koh Samui trespass the Singapore airspace and RSAF sends two of its F16 to intercept the plane and is forced to land ,
here's the link.
Spend a almost two hour delay in the gate snapping some shots. There are some flight delayed including mine, we took off around almost 21.00 and arrive late in KL.

Quoting andyinpit (Reply 2): The article you linked was from Jan 2008....
I am seeing the same as you mate... I think our friend is a bit confused. If it was January I'd see where the mistake was made but its not.... at least last I checked.

Quoting aviasian (Reply 6): I believe there was an air defence exercise going on at that time.
I can't guarantee that the closure being discussed here was caused by it, but I can confirm that there have been air defense exercises being carried out in the Kuala Lumpur and Singapore FIR's (including in the vicinity of SIN) over the past few days.
The link below is to a pdf on Google Docs showing the supplement issued in Malaysia regarding the closure. Note in Sections 11 and 12 of this document that some specific restrictions on SIN traffic were expected, so it may very well be that conditions of the defense exercises resulted in a temporary closure.
