I'm off to London at the end of the year got a good deal on MH from Perth. For the first time though in about 14 years though the tradionally 777 market is being replaced by an A330. OF course the London leg is on a 400.
Althought quietly MH are having another serious crack at the Kangaroo Route. Unlike last time though when they had only Qantas, Singapore and Cathay to contend with they now have Arab challengers who are agressively heading into Australia plus China Southern.

In a way its too little, too late, with all those challengers now on the scene.
Add in D7/AK, and theres another level of competition for them. Seems that it took the arrival of D7 to get MH off its backside into Australia.

MH should order at least 2 more A380s to completely replace the B747s.
A few suggestions:
1. order next generation aircrafts B787 or A350
2. refurbish their 777s ( they are to stay still next generation aircraft coming)
3. increase 5 A330s (or more) to firm order from option, so that the new A330s would replace some first few 777s from 1997-1999, their first few 777s might be too old after a few years.
4. in the future, they could reconfigure some new A330s business class to 180 degrees flatbed by removing one row ie 30 business class, for 6.5-9 hours routes such as Australia destinations and use the current new lieflat on more regional routes,

Quoting dalce (Reply 13): At least AMS is being served with 744 equipment and rumours were a couple of years ago that AMS would be one of the first 380 destinations for MH.
Any update about MH sending the 380 to AMS? Linking two Skyteamhubs it would make sense.

When was MH's last flight to Canada? Which city? Why do they not fly to Canada?
It was KUL-TPE-YVR in the late 90's codesharing with CP
Forgot the exact year it start and end
I think it started in 1995 and ended in 1999. The caption of the following photo dated February 1999 says it was their final flight from YVR. With little Canada-Malaysia O&D traffic and not that much 5th freedom traffic YVR-TPE, and with only 2 flights a week, I'm sure it was a highly unprofitable operation. MH was also in serious financial trouble during that period.
