Just heard on CNN, I don't see an article online at the moment. Flight number 1706. Landed in ABQ after a security threat occured inflight. No other details at this time.
Quote: A Delta flight en route to San Diego from Detroit was diverted to Sunport in Albuquerque Sunday morning due to a security threat.
Detla officials say flight 1706 landed at Sunport International Airport just before 10 a.m. because the flight crew felt that there was a security threat.
Although at this time officials will not give further details on the type of threat as FBI agents are still investigating.
Sunport officials say the plane has been evacuated and all passengers have been taken to a secure area to be questioned by FBI agents.
Delta released the following statement Sunday morning:
Delta flight 1706, scheduled service from Detroit to San Diego, diverted to Albuquerque out of an abundance of caution due to a security concern. The flight landed safely and Delta is cooperating directly with authorities. Delta's first and foremost priority is the safety and security of our customers and crew. The flight was operated on 737 equipment with 137 passengers and six crew members.

Quote: A TSA official told Fox News that a flight attendant found a suspicious note in the lavatory and the pilot decided to divert the flight.
The airline said in a statement that the diversion occurred "out of an abundance of caution due to a security concern." It said 137 passengers and six crew members had been on board the plane.
A reporter for NBC San Diego called the aircraft a "737 Jumbo Jet" in the video located at the link below. They then showed a picture of the A330-300 involved in the NWA253 incident at DTW in 2009. Journalism at its finest. http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/loca...ed-to-NM-Over-Security-Threat.html

The reason New Mexico is so windy is because Texas sucks and Arizona blows.

Did DL get a sneak delivery on the new Boeing replacement for the B-737NG?
Quoting ABQ747 (Reply 2): showed a picture of the A330-300
So is this an AB-337NG? Or is it called the BA-730NG-IGW/-NEO? A new co-op build airplane between Airbus and Boeing to replace both the A-330 and B-737?

Anyway getting back on topic, I was at SAN for a good while yesterday in baggage claim and I kept seeing these news cameras, had no idea what was going on. I go to buy a postcard for my friend around 5:30 and ask her, she said they found a note and diverted to ABQ, and it must've been a slow news day. Yesterday I flew DL971 JFK-SAN and the TSA held ALL outbound DL departures to find a bag right as we were about to leave... guess it was only a slow news day in SAN then

EDIT: Anyone know what the reg was? Not that it matters, I'm just curious -- was a 73H and I'm wondering if it's a plane I've been on.

It's hard not to notice that there have been several of these incidents since the Seals took care of Bin Laden the other day. Are these incidents attempts by terrorists to test on-board security prior to a revenge strike, or has a stupidity virus suddenly descended?

This explains the acft I saw parked on the approach end of 17, when I left ABQ for SAN on WN yesterday... ABQ also closed RWY 12/30 as well. As a passenger I am glad to see airline personel being extra vigilant.
I'm like a kid in a candy store when it comes to planes!
