So, I flew through MCI today, and noticed about 4 MD-80's near a hangar. I thought from the looks of them that they were old red top NW planes, but they were not. I could not see any markings, but they did have red tops. Anyone have any idea whose they are?

They might be ex-AV, as they retired the MD-83 from their fleet earlier this year:

Yeah they are Avianca's old ones. I was surprised to see them a few weeks ago, there were a bunch of them over at the old TWA hangars. Not sure why there are there.

Those are it!

I wonder if G4 might be taking them? I don't recall seeing any engines on them. I take it that MCI does not have a boneyard?

Yes they are the old Avianca ones. They have painted a couple of the others white. And there some others in the hangers too. What flight were you on today F9Animal? Probablely saw and did not know it.

Yes they are ex-AV MD80's. They belong to Jet Midwest Group and we will be putting them back into service after C check and paint at our facility at the ex-TWA/AA hangar at MCI. Any eagle-eyed spotters may have seen an Air France/Regional Fokker 100 outside in November of 2010. She is now in the hangar, undergoing testing with Phoenix Aero Solutions for an STC to install a large cargo door in the F100.

So who is getting these birds after the C check?

I *believe* one will be going to Singapore for a new start-up. The rest are available for sale/lease/ACMI.

If I do recall I remember seeing most of them without any engines on them...I have also seen a DL livery E-170 and a few Republic E-190's receiving paint....and a white 767-200

All of the above true. Judging from your flickr album, you've spent some time inside our hangar I see. We should have 2 more Fokker 100's parked over there by month's end.

Yes I have been over a few times that date back to when my father worked for TW and now recently once AA was still there we would have broke aircraft over there for engine changes and other issues as well
