So far (as one who flies on an MD-88 2 or 3 times a week) it seems that maybe 10% have been completed (simply an observation, NOT hard substantiated facts).

Cabin crews are not very happy with them, and the F/C overhreads get quite full. Having all the carts in the forward galley makes for some cumbersome serving arrangements in Y.

It is interesting to see how they achieved it -- basically they eliminated the 1 C and D seats, and moved everything back 1 row so that the previous 2 A and B now are re-numbered and align to the previous 2 C and D (which are now 1 C and D!

I love to fly, and it shows!

Plus, the entire Y cabin lines up perfectly on both sides as opposed to how it was before. Personally, I've riden both F and Y on the M8Rs and I don't see the service issues that were brought up (i.e. having to walk through F to service Y; or Y cabin service taking longer). I did RDU-ATL; ATL-RDU several times in Y on an M8R. That flight is only 50 minutes wheels up to wheels down and they managed to get everyone a drink and cookies in Y. I've alsmo done ORF-ATL and ATL-DFW in F and I never felt "bothered" with the Y service cart. Once they load up, they bring it through F and they do their pass and bring it back. No big deal.

But that's the norm on any AC in F/C... at least on the MD-88 in the new config the co-pilot side overhead door over old 1C&D is not restricted by the overhead support... and the seats are new w/ power... much nicer.

Just booked an MD-80 flight on 5/27 (DL1214), by looks of seat map when booking, it's going to be one of the newly configured MD-88s. Look forward to checking it out.

The removal of the rear Galley area and the addition of added seats, the alignment of F/C with the push back of the C & D rows to match the port side of the AC with an added 2 F/C seats to the A & B side .... rows 1 - 4 match A&B and C&D...while the rest of the AC rows match up as well .. no staggering!

All but 1 MD-90 is in the new config. (16F 144Y).

As for the M8Rs, the following are in new config. (16F 133Y). There may be more but these are the ones I can confirm.

Ships 9000, 9006, 9020, 951, 971, 978, 982, 983, 985, 987, 989, 995, and 996. Like I said, there may be more.

Hey guys, I hope someone can give me some insight- I'm booked on an MD90 this week, and with all the mods I wasn't sure which exit rows have full recline. According to Delta.com 25,26 are limited, but 27 has full recline. The agent on the phone told me, 25, and 27 had limited recline, but 26 had full recline. Seatguru still seems to have the old MD90 config so I can't go by that. I'm rather confused. thanks.

well, maybe.

If 1A and 1B are not selectable for assignment it MAY mean that you have a shot at either configuration. I THOUGHT I had an M8R out of DAY a couple of weeks ago (if I believed the seat map) but it ended up being the old 14F configuration. You won't really know until boarding. Equipment can change on a moment's notice -- just like the 757's.

Yep. At this point, they are both interchangeable and no specific route gets an M8R more than another (although it seems to me the DFW is more hit than miss.

And you get screwed IF you book 2 A&B thinking it is the "old" version and they substitute the "new" version and the first thing the person in 1 A & /or B does is slam his recline all the way back on t/o roll.....

with that said from "FlyASAGuy2005" and looking at the DL seating map, IMHO I'd say its a safe bet they have reconfig'd this bird on both segs...

I heard a rumor that the FAA asked DL to stop reconfiguring the MD-88 citing there is not enough trash receptacle space in just the fwd galley with the new configuration to accommodated a full DL MD-88. Has anyone heard anything like or about this rumor?

I think this has been resolved, considering that only one MD-90 remains in the old config. I believe this problem affected both the MD-88 and MD-90.

I've heard that rumor also. I don't know if it is true, but it seems to be a real problem. I think the reconfigs have stopped for the summer season. I would expect to see more planes done this fall.
