Hi all:

I'm visiting the SF Bay Area and noticed a 737-700 departing OAK twice so far with a paint job I don't recognize. It's too far away to tell other than it has a red tail and a white fuselage with some sort of writing or logo. I'm assuming it's fly for WN. Any thoughts?

Could Privatair be doing some charters of some sort?

It's not Southwest, they don't have any white jets anymore. Red tail suggests Privatair BBJ.

Going through the DB here, it doesn't sound like anything in the WN fleet. My guess is what you're seeing is KaiserAir's 73G operating as Kona Shuttle, flying OAK-KOA. It operates on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays, leaving OAK in the morning (10 AM on Mon/Thur, 9 AM on Sun).

I'm guessing, as the only photos I can find anywhere of a 737 operating as Kona Shuttle was from when Miami Air was operating the service, and I would assume the KaiserAir 73G has a different scheme.

When we (LL) operated the Kona Shuttle, it was with Kaiser's A/C, but on our certificate, until such time as they were able to obtain their own ETOPS certification. They recently achieved that and our relationship was terminated. The aircraft remained the same.

The logos are more noticeable than Privatair and less than the typical WN logo jet. I don't think the Kona Shuttle has two flights...unless one is going southeast and one going southwest roughly four hours apart.

It remains a mystery.

Flightaware shows the only 737 departures from OAK this weekend have all been WN or AS...

Any other details? Time of day, more visual clues? You sure it was a -700?

Any chance it could have been Vision?

I took a look at Flightaware and couldn't find any Vision flights.

Are there any red tailed A320's left or do they all have widgets now?

From where did you see these planes flying southeast or southwest? Most OAK and some SFO departures take off to the north and then turn 180 degrees and fly south over the SF peninsula. Perhaps you simply saw a VX A319/A320 on the downwind out of SFO.

Many airlines can take shape of a WN plane, especially with WN's various state liveries.

The entire A319/320 fleet was completed in March 2010.

I was in Alameda. Departures from OAK leave left to right normally from Runway 29.

It was definitely a 737-700.

When I left on my OAK-SEA return, the WN Florida logojet arrived and I had a good look at it. I think it might have been that aircraft.
