QF is the only "Gang of Eight" airlines selected by Boeing to help define the 777 that has not ordered the airplane. They are not due to receive any 777s from any leasing firms, nor is there any immediate plan to introduce 300-seat aircraft before 2004.

CEO of Qantas, James Strong recently said in an interview in Australian Aviation magazine that Qantas did look at introducing a 300-seater, like the A340 or the 777, and also considered expanding there long haul capability and decided on buying some new 747's from other carriers as well as receiving new 744's (the first of three arrived approx 3 weeks ago, registered as VH-OJS)
