Quote: Emirates has signed a Letter of Intent with General Electric (GE) to oversee the design and construction of the Shop using the most advanced technology, equipment and best practices in the industry.
As EK continues to expand it has decided that it needs to set up its own overhaul and repair shop for GE90 and GP7000 engines fitted to the B777 and A380 aircraft.
This will be good news for local employment both during the building stage and once up and running, while enabling EK to more efficiently manage maintenance and repairs in-house. Construction is expected to begin Q1 2012 and the facility to be ready by Q4 2014.

Quoting Lutfi (Reply 1): or even the mechanics when it is in operation will be Emirati...
Emirates does have an 'Emiratisation' programme in place and is actively seeking to reduce its reliance on expatriate employees. While there has been greater progress in managerial and administrative posts, there is an increasing number flight crew and aircraft licensed engineers and mechanics, but they still remain a minority.
