They have only recently just re-configured the existing fleet, and put new seats in. The old seats did have PTV's, but was chargeable to use the service, and wasn't all that popular and couldn't recoup their costs for having the system in place.
The new seats when installed, involved the whole system being totally ripped out. But I think the new seats were primarily installed, due to the numerous complaints they received on how uncombable they were.
If Air Asia X could offer Wi-Fi, I bet that would be popular, even for a small charge.
