Sky News is reporting this morning that QF has reached a multi-million dollar settlement with Rolls Royce over the incident which caused 'OQA to be grounded in Singapore - and the rest of the fleet to be grounded for a considerable time afterwards.

$95 million according to AJ
http://www.abc.net.au/news/business/ Qantas is forecasting a pre-tax profit of $500-550 million, including a $95 million dollar settlement with Rolls Royce over an A380 engine failure.
No mention of recovery from insurance, but presumably most of the insurance money will go to repair the wing.
Qantas CEO Alan Joyce is expected to announce an overhaul of the airline's international operations
But no detailed information on that so far. The odd thing about the recent cancellations was that AJ was grumbling about international but cancelling domestic planes. Maybe the knife will come out for long haul orders as he keeps on about lowering capital investment in long haul until it pays its way.
It appears the Whales are about to swallow more sardines - more Y seats apparently. Not clear if this will be smaller J or if they will just pack the Y class in on top of each other.

QF will rue the day they let JB go to Virgin, I Hope QF pull out of these problems times they are having as they are a great airline, But i cant see it happening with the current Management
Thank, although they really contain nothing not already known. I assumed they would tell us their plans for QANTAS long haul, but not so.
Grrrrr. Not keen on AJ, but I do concede he may well have been left a heck of a mess by Dixon. That offer to sell the company (to Dixon's personal benefit) was probably just the tip of a very large iceberg!

Great job by the Rolls Royce and Qantas PR people for getting this done and announcing it now so it can be buried amongst airshow news. Way to fly under the radar.
Why do Aerospace Engineering students have to turn things in on time?

Yes, it seems that the National Carrier Qantas and the Australian Government, and a few other companies down here, all need to have a change of leadership. Maybe then it will all turn out for the good. I miss the old Qantas.

While I know less than nothing about Australian or UK security laws could it be that because this would have a material effect on either Rolls-Royce's (or their parent company) and/or the Qantas group's stock price it had to be reported?
Always wonderers if this "last and final boarding call" is in fact THE last and final boarding call.

Well there might be an NDA, but just at this moment, disclosing some more promising information is built in the AJ's DNA.
But you will note that even that is all set about with "fever trees" to quote Kipling to avoid lessening his hard stance to the Unions.
The lack of cancellations of 787s and possibly the 380s - so far! - might mean the long hinted stories about VERY attractive prices being the case. Better to take them at those prices than cancel a few.

You are spot on. Qantas requested a trading halt prior to making this and a profit update announcement.

I guess your assumption could be very much closer to the truth then maybe we all have thought until now.

No, this is incorrect imho. The one and only reason they have communicated this now was to avoid another explosion in mostly useless QF-A380 threads and posts here on A-net. .

With QF and RR finalising a deal now repairs can commence on VH-OQA so the new return to service timeline sounds spot on...

Now all we need to do is write a fake Email confirming this and have it emanate from Derby. We have a few folk in Aus who specialize in this sort of thing. And we even have ones with splendid real names too!
Godwin Grech, the senior Treasury official at the heart of the OzCar affair, has admitted he wrote the fake email which alleged Prime Minister Kevin Rudd gave special treatment to a Queensland car dealer.
Something along the lines of:
"Dear Alan,
We cannot stand the thought of another series of tough threads on a.net about the shortcomings of our Trent 900 engines, so we enclose a cheque for $95,000,000.00 and a form for you to sign ensuring your future praise of our products.
Ys
For and on behalf of RR"
But seriously, both companies would have been extra pleased to get it out of the way. QF so it could tuck the funds into its balance sheet and RR, well if had never heard of that problem that would be just fine.
The real oddity however, is that arguably it gives a bit of ammo to the unions in the really hardball stand off with AJ that is going on in the background. Then again, the amount is less than the excessive claims that QF made in the heat of the moment, so perhaps "JUST" $95 million is a plus for AJ.

Well pretty much the only thing that has been released is the figure... that figure by law has to be disclosed to the market as it is a significant change to the books, hence why there was a trading halt on the shares.
