Quoting A388 (Reply 1): That's great news, now let them order some A350's!!! I know, it's not going to happen... In any case, nice to see LAN order the NEO's as well
This is excellent news for LAN Airlines as it will keep LAN's narrow-body fleet of a/c relatively young while supporting the company's strategic growth plans. It will be interesting to see if LAN chooses either the Pratt and Whitney 1100 or the LEAP-X CFM International for this new order. It will also be exciting to see LAN's A320 family a/c with the new Sharklets starting in 2013. This order is not surprising considering that LAN will soon launch its fifth passenger subsidiary, LAN Colombia.
LAN will operate a wide-body fleet of a/c consisting only of Boeing a/c. LAN Airlines S.A. currently has 32 Boeing 787 Dreamliners (with options), 18 B-767-316ERs and 2 Boeing 777Fs on order.

IIRC, LAN planned to keep their A343-300s at least until 2014, mainly to fly to New Zealand. Is this still correct?

Chile's LAN opts for eco-efficient Airbus:
LAN Airlines S.A. believes that the Airbus A320neo a/c is, "An important step in ensuring LAN's leadership in the region." LAN plans on utilizing the 20 Airbus A320neo a/c just ordered as part of the company's strategy to consolidate its passenger and cargo businesses in the region. Due to the increasing growth in regional travel, and by operating a rapidly modernizing fleet of a/c, LAN Airlines sees great potential for growth and the Airbus A320neo a/c will play a role in enabling LAN to poach more customers away from competing airlines in the Americas.
Quote: The $1.7 billion Airbus order was a welcome boost to the European aircraft manufacturer but also a reminder to competing airlines in the Americas that LAN was poised to poach more of their business with a rapidly modernizing fleet and regional growth in travel. LAN has one of the youngest airline fleets in the world. The airline's partnership strategy has given it a strong foothold in a growing number of destinations worldwide.

FIRST LATIN AMERICAN CARRIER ORDERS A320NEO JETS:
Tom Enders, Airbus President and CEO recently commended LAN Airlines for being the first customer in the region to order the A320neo a/c. Mr. Enders stated, “Our history with LAN has been consistent with their passion for innovation and growth...Airbus commends LAN for being the first in the region to order the A320neo and capitalize on its unbeatable cost savings.” http://bit.ly/k9pOUJ

Quoting A388 (Reply 12): You are correct, I totally forgot about Aires. That's one very inefficient fleet.
AIRES' B-737-700s will eventually be replaced with A-320s; which will start to arrive in Colombia by the end of this year. If you knew anything about LAN's history; this is not the first time that LAN has operated A320 family a/c, alongside B737s! The Dash-Q200/Q400s are necessary due to multiple airports in Colombia that are not equipped to handle jet a/c; i.e. AIRES operates a focus city at EOH!

LAN Airlines selects Rockwell Collins avionics for 80 Airbus A320s:
Quote: PARIS, France (June 23, 2011) – Chile-based LAN Airlines recently selected a full suite of Rockwell Collins avionics, including its WXR-2100 MultiScan™ Threat Detection System and GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR), for 80 Airbus A320s, which is one of the largest aircraft orders for an airline in South America. Deliveries will begin later this year and continue through 2016.
This new power plant ensures that LAN will not only obtain more delivery slots in the short term, but it also ensures a balance of provider companies, minimizing potential risks. This strategy is also used by many airlines that have a large number of aircraft, and is also part of the LAN philosophy of "not-sticking with only one vendor."
LAN Signs $2 Billion CFM56-5B Engine Order / Maintenance Agreement for 70 New A320 Family Aircraft:
Quote: 20 July 2010-Chilean flag carrier LAN Airlines today placed the single largest engine order in the company's 81-year history, choosing the CFM56-5B engine to power 70 new Airbus A319/A320/A321 aircraft for delivery beginning in 2011. This also represents the single largest engine order by a Latin American airline...To support its new fleet, LAN chose a 12-year Rate for Flight Hour (RPFH) agreement with CFM. The RPFH is a comprehensive maintenance program customized to LAN Airlines specific needs under which CFM guarantees the maintenance cost on a dollar per engine flight hour basis...The engine order, which is part of the airline's continued fleet renewal and expansion program, covers 30 A320 family aircraft announced in December 2009, in addition to 40 new A320s that are part of the Memorandum of Understanding announced earlier today by LAN and Airbus.
