Last night on the Discovery Channel here In Canada, they showed the Airplane Repo TV Show, Nick Popovich is the owner of the airplane repo company,

I have added a link to the Discovery Site, there are replaying it this week at different times,

http://www.discoverychannel.ca/Article.aspx?aid=33213

In my honest opinion, this has to be the best reality show for aviation enthusiasts, the company owner Nick Popovich pays spotters to find aircraft, take pictures and gather intellignece, I am pretty sure he uses flight aware and this site to gather info on the aircrafts.

If you haven't got the chance to watch, try and find it and watch it....

I remember reading about this series on here a couple of years ago before they started filming, have been looking forward to this one

Hopefully it will make it's way across the pond in the next 12 months or so

Grant,

I watched it too last night, and I'll admit, I had visions of myself getting into this kind of line of business... Hrrrm..... LOL

It seems like a stressful line of work though, as I'd imagine all Repo jobs would be -

I have a question that perhaps someone in the industry might be able to confirm for me -

Clearly, the pilot flying the plane out of the airport would have to obtain clearance to leave. How could that be done without the owner knowing? I'm assuming they would have some kind of legal document they could file with the right authorities, correct?

I did some reading today and it has to do with the staff he has! It's all in the paperwork. I have not personally read a lease agreement for aircrafts but in my short time helping a buddy at a car dealership, I learned, if you don't pay, the owner can take it back pretty easily. Actually in the few cases I saw with cars, the customers turned them over without too much of a fight. Needless to say, if the airport gets the fees paid, they should be happy!

Can anyone confirm that the East PA airport they repo'ed the hawker from in the last half of the second episode was Lancaster PA? I few in there a while back but it seems to ring a bell watching the episode

Can't wait to see another episode! I am still excited about it! I just want the spotters job, seems like I had been doing that around YYZ for years! All the long nights taking those night photos from T1 brings back memories!

Here in the US, stumbled a few weeks ago on the episode where he's repoing the 2 ex-Hellas Jet A320s and moving them from Chateauroux to Gary. Great show. Haven't seen it recently, seems to be hit and miss.

This show has been aired in the UK on one of the Discovery Channels (I forget which it was). There were only three episodes shown (and no indication of any more to come). I must agree it would be an ideal employment for members of this site. Fancy getting paid to watch out for certain Aircraft.

The pilot calls the tower and asks for clearance, or if an uncontrolled airport he just goes. He might need to file a flightplan, but the FAA/Nav Canada doesn't call up the owner and ask "Is your airplane allowed to fly today?".

The legal document that they have to lawfully take the aircraft is the lease/loan agreement itself, or something similar entitling repossession (like a court order). If they didn't have that, but nonetheless took the aircraft, they'd run the risk of being charged with theft.

I am pretty sure he uses flight aware

In one of the episodes (not sure which one) you get an extremely quick shot of him sitting at his computer, and judging by what flashed by as the camera panned around he was staring at flight aware.

Cheers

Yes that's what I was refering too!

Does anyone know if you can buy these episodes on itunes? That would be a great place to have them for sale, I would pay for ones that I have not seen!

Thanks,

Grant

It already aired on DSC here ... I guess look either for a repeat, or it to air in a slot on Disc-HD Theater.

There was a long article on his activities in the Smithsonian Air & Space magazine last year.

I watched an episode with my female housemate and the reaction between us was 180 degrees. haha....

I was hooked on the show and took in every second with job and excitement! I got such a rush from watching it and it brought back many memories as well.

The housemate, well, she kept asking if we could change it and eventually fell asleep.

Some people just can't appreciate our obsession with airlines/aviation. haha.

But isn't "the owner" the one that's hired him to repo the plane?

I haven't seen this yet, but it sounds like a fun show.

Is the show actually filmed during the course of real repos or is it staged?

I know the "operation repo" show that profiles more mainstream type reposestions is presents itself as if the events are really occurring as they're filming, but in reality it's "inspired by true events" and are recreations of events that (supposedly) happened.
