Came across this on Flight Radar 24 website

http://www.flightradar24.com/?SAA221

SAA221 being operated by VT-JWB

Is this an error or have they leased an A340 from Jet?

Is an error on the system, should have updated back to the ZS- reg.

SAA leased 3 of their A340-300's to Jet a few years back, this before Jet got their own long haul machines.

ZS-SXE is the aircraft that used to be VT-JWB.

Anyone know what the wide-body fleet composition will be once the 3 A343E aircraft are returned? I'm under the impression SA still has one or more B744 operating routes within Africa. Will the A343E partially replace the withdrawal of the 6 A342? SA if I understand correctly,is also taking delivery of a number of A332.

The lease of the 3 A340 to Jet was a LONG time ago, all those planes fhave long since eturned to SAA. JET Air ordered 10 Boeing 777-300ER that were mostly leased out to Turkish Air and now Thai has some. Jet also has 10 A330-200 which it flies to Brussels and on to JFK, YYZ and Newark using a scissor hub from 3 Indian cities.

The 343's were returned a good few years ago.

One of the 744's was pressed back into service for a few runs but has since left and is now with Transaero.

6 A332's were ordered to replace the 342 fleet, 3 332's have arrived so far. I don't think any 342's have been stood down yet, I understand they will start to phase these out once the 2 former IB 343's added LY have been refurbished.

I noticed that 9W replaced their 77W to Newark with an A330. Do they operate any 777s currently? When do these leases expire?

Per Planespotters.net, three are currently active on Jet Airways routes...

Believe the first ones from TK will be returning to Jet Airways next month.

SA never reset the modeS ID to a South African value when it was returned from lease from 9W. I them all the time on my radarbox when I lived in JNB.

SAA originally had 6 343's and 6 342's. The 332's are going to replace the 342's and two additional 343's have arrived, so there will be 8 343's and 6 332's.

Andz, what do you know about the 2 ex IB A343 aircraft that have joined the fleet. I read somewhere that they will have a cabin refit and SA livery, that leads me to think they are a long term addition.

Does anyone know what the SAA A332 cabin looks like? Does it look like the cabin of the rest of their A340's or perhaps they introduced something different on them?

And what will happen two those A342s?

Quoting bmibaby737 (Reply 6):

Two will be send onwards to Thai (until Thai gets their own 77Ws), and the other two that are returned soon will be pressed into Jets own services - if that works.

According to the pictures on flysaa.com the business class seats are quite different (what you can see of them) and the Y class seats are different too, handsets in the seat back in front instead of the armrest is one difference I saw.

I was driving by Newark airport over this past week and saw the Jet Airways A330 land.

What routes do they use their 777? One would imagine that Newark would be one of those routes if they want to compete with CO for the non-stops.
