As already rumored (at least here in Italy), AZ will operate some long haul charter routes during the next winter season, in collaboration with the Italian Tour Operator "Eden Viaggi".

From Dec '11 to Apr '12 the new routes operated on weekly basis from FCO and MXP will be:
- La Romana (Dominican Republic)
- Saint Maarten
- Mombasa
- Zanzibar

Here the news (in Italian)

Should we take guesses on which planes will do this routes? 767s?

Flying a regular airliner on charter routes sounds like a good deal, though...

Sure hope so. Those A330s are now being used with stength. Although I could see the ex-AirOne A330s (already in AZ's new colors) to be operating some of these charters. As far as I know, the configuration of these planes hasn't changed, and they're high density...

The 767s are now being used to CCS, MIA, ORD and BOS I believe...

Would using a 767 for the charter routes require to free up a plane from any of these routes? When I flew MIA-FCO a couple of years back it was done on a 777... could a 777 or, more likely, a 332 take one of this routes and leave a 767 available eventually? Or is the ex-AirOne 332 already available?

The usage of the 767 has fluctuated quite a lot. MIA has seasonal 777 service, mostly during winter time.

The 767 comes in during Summer. Currently AZ operates FCO-MIA-FCO with a 767 and MXP-MIA-MXP with the new A330.

AZ retired one of its 767 a while ago. Now they have 5 in use. I've seen EI-DDW flying the FCO-CCS-FCO leg on a daily basis, with no interruptions for over two weeks! I believe they're so tight with this aircraft type that there's no possibility to swap with other destinations.

The ex-AirOne A330s are using the old configuration. I don't know on which routes they're operating them. I presume they're being deployed to BOS and NRT... but remember Japan is a premium destination for AZ and they want to send the new product to all their Asian destinations.
