Finnair's staff is getting new uniforms, the cabin crews get them first in the end of this year, the rest during 2012. New nano-fabrics have been used to provide better fitting and easier care.

Reflects Finland very well. But the lady's uniforms look more retro than modern. Doesn't mean it doesn't look good though.

Not bad, great refresh compared to the current uniform, while we are talking about the "AY image" I think their aircraft livery has a lot of room for improvement!

Tjhe cut of the men's suit is awful: thick sleeves, large shoulders and three buttons are so outdated ... and te tie is too large.

Well after saying yesterday that the CX men's uniform was dull and uninspired, it seems like someone is closer to getting it right. Yes, it's not the best cut, but I like the tie and colour combination. It seems fairly individual.

I personally don't like the women's outfit at all! The white/navy combination is TOO retro with those big white patches!

Something about the ladies dress; long sleeves, white patches and no belt makes it look more like a maternity suit or an apron of some sort. Not very nice looking IMHO.

The design of uniform looks like similar with the livery on aircraft, but it's better. I got say the uniform is inspired.

Agreed, although it looks like the top button may be from a waistcoat underneath. The button appears to be located above where the lapel has started on the jacket.

Nice uniform. I like retro, it's the way forward.

Now only if they had employed an equally good designer to handle their livery change.

I'd give it a "B" for being new, clean and professional. But I don't like that white overlay on the women's dresses. It reminds me of Pilgrims' dresses.

And I agree that the three button men's jacket would have been better a two button.

It just came to me why I don't like the male 3 button jacket...it looks like a train conductor's uniform.... A whistle and a watch on a chain missing from the outfit.

Hey all,

This uniform really divides my thoughts about it. I like the simplicity of it, especially the women's uniform is harmonous and calm, somehow I see Finnishness in it. The male uniform, then again, is dull. But then again AY has always been very conservative with male uniform.

What really hurts in my eye with the female uniform displayed in the center in the picture is the weird looking hump just below name tag and wings. What is that? A cloud? A mishap? Not good, what ever it is.

Not a big fan of the white stripe either, on the dress to far right. it should have some continuation on the jacket, now it looks a bit missmatch with the jacket.

Love the fact that AY is keeping stripes to show ranking. They make the uniform look more professional, and when it is done with style, I think they look good.

From a safety aspect, The sleeves on the uniform in middle are too short to be worn during take off and landing, meaning it has to be a service-dress only. Nothing new about that, the present AY uniform has a light blue service dress, also.

A female friend of mine commented on the fact that neither female combination displayed on the pictures show a shirt. She was horrified about it, saying a lot of women wants to cover more of the neck area than what these dresses allow. But I am sure these are just PR pictures and in relaity they will be worn a little differently.

And the hat, well as nice idea as it is, I think it is too retro. But maybe I grow into it when Í see it in real life.

With greetings,

okAY

It might just be me but these uniforms look like something out of the Thunderbirds or Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. I do like the retro look, hopefully there is a mini skirt option!!

Yes

This wouldn't be the first time AY "go space", in 1969 their HEL-JFK route was introduced, with a new look on board the DC-8:

When my Mom started at Finnair in 1974, they had bright yellow or bright green uniforms to choose from. AY has always been quite adventerous with the female unifrom and the uniforms have been equally loved and hated by the CC over the years. The good thing with AY is that they renew the uniform quite often, and always have two different versions, summer and winter, though this is pure logic thinking how extreme changes of weather one experiences in Finland.

Big change was when they stopped the Service Chef -position. SCs were specially trained to work in Business Class and followed Finnhostess -position. Both positions had their own uniforms, FHs having an evening gown like uniform in the 1970s. SCs had a dark red skirt and dark blue/dark red vest with the symbol of the international gastronomic association Chaîne des Rôtisseurs on it. Unfortunately nowadays Business Class does not see any difference concerning the training of CC who works upfront.

okAY

You are right. If you look at a close-up of the picture, the waistcoat can be seen. Although I am not a fashion fanatic, I have always understood that with a vest on, the jacket is left unbuttoned (especially when the vest is the same colour as the rest of the suit).
