Hi to all, sorry if posted.

Dutch charter-airline arkefly just announced the start of a twice daily service from AMS to DXB for the W11/12 seaso, starting in november 2011.

Is there enough room for another carrier on this route? How will OR compete against KL, GA, EK & Co.?! Even the flight is online to book- there is no information about the a/c type (but as 3 classes will be offered, so I guess it will be a B763).

Other new routes: Zanzibar, Eilat/Ovda and Puerto Vallarta.

No idea how it'll do against the established larger carriers, but it will be operated by a B738 routing AMS-DXB-BAH-AMS.

I have no idea how Arkefly will fly this route with their small fleet of 763's. Their 767 schedule already seems full now, let alone adding another route!!!

Can a B738 do AMS - DXB withouth penalties?

^^ In a high density layout too would make it interesting indeed.

Is it 2 daily or weekly? Good luck to them.

I'm guessing a 3-class 737 is already "penalised" and seeing that the max range of a 737 is ~3100nm and AMS to DXB is ~2800nm in a straight line, the outbound leg wouldn't be a problem at all. Inbound leg may be a via routing.

2 weekly (Thursday and Sunday).

As long as they sell enough packages, i wouldn't see a problem for them.

They don't carry any cargo with them so I guess they might utilise the full potential of the B738. They will compete with fares I guess.

If not, the route will be finalised very shortly.

BTW. They have 4 B767 (which are pretty). How the hell are they able to fly to so many destinations? Will Zanzibar be flown by a 738 as well (fuel stop in Tunesia)? I can't remember who has previously flown the route but I know some European airlines have flown this route.

Most of their long haul destinations are flown only a few times a week.

Nearly EVERY Italian Charter Airline- Zantibar is most popular with Italians...

Very strange... According to Arkefly, "Premium Comfort" class is offered- which is ONLY available on B767-300 (according to their home-page).

Are you sure? I think they have only 2 (ex BY) B767WL with PTV and leather seats, the other 2 are older models without WL, PTV's and leather seats!

^^ Np man.

They should do ok. It isn't heaps of capacity to fill in the bigger picture.

They still have PH-AHQ and PH-AHX but I was informed that they would be phased out soon after both PH-OYI and PH-OYJ were taken up. I am sure PH-AHX will be taken out of the fleet first. Flights to CUR alone which indeed are combined with other Caribbean routes are operated 5 x weekly and they have more longhaul flights. MIA is or will be another new destination.

I believe Thomson Airways UK TOM are leasing out a couple of their 767s to Arkefly aswell as Jetairfly this winter... I'll try and find a source.

Thomson Airways B767-300 G-OBYE is reported to be going on lease to Arkefly from September 2011 as PH-OYE.

As per scramble.nl the 737-800 will also receive Premium Comfort Class in the upcoming winter season.

If Norwegian can fly Oslo-Dubai with the 737-800, I cannot see why Arkefly cannot...

Okay, this explains a bit more. So am I reading this right in that PH-AHX will be replaced by PH-OYE? What about PH-AHQ? Will the Jetairfly 763 replace PH-AHQ?

The standard B738 is not making it at all... TUIfly of Germany flew last winter Germany-Dubai. In order to make a save non-stop flight (without the need of refueling), the B738 was limited to around 120 passengers from Northern Germany (Hamburg) and around 140 passengers from Central Germany (Frankfurt). As far as I can remember, I read a post about DY's fuel-stops in Istanbul- if the flight is fully booked...

More information available? 2 x 2 seating, or maybe free middle seat? would be nice to know...

Would be sad to see to have again a B763 without PTV in their fleet.
