Aircraft N388LS.
Just discovered that this great aircraft is still flying, sorry late to the game.
Does anyone else have a "Private" L1011 still flying, did any other country have a VIP L1011 back in the 80's?
Are there any interior shots available of N388LS, Wiki did not come up with any?

Well a DB search revealed a few, other than the obvious RAF ones.

Would love to catch a ride on one as the Tristar is one of my all time favourite aircraft, sadly I don't think I stand much chance as most of them are based in South America, Africa and the Middle East.

Here are a few of the Government and privately owned TriStars:

s/n 1250 the final L-1011 off the production line was sold to the Algeria government and a VIP interior installed. However, they never took delivery and it was picked up by the Saudi Arabian government. It is now owned by Sands and in storage.

I had the pleasure of seeing the Sands L1011 at ORD a couple weeks ago. Might be the last time I see an L1011 in service.

I was wondering about cockpit crew for these aircraft, where are they getting them from?
If rated on a similar 3 holer can they cross over with minimal training?
Importantly are there young pilots coming up ready to learn these great ladies?

The cockpit crews would probably come from airlines that previously operated the aircraft, like fairly recently ATA and the RAF. There wouldn't be any real advantage to come from a DC-10 or MD-11 as the only similarities are the fact that they have three engines. The systems and procedures are different and need to be learned the same way someone coming from a two or four engine aircraft would have to learn. I would have to guess that there aren't any new pilots in flight training that will eventually fly the L-1011 commercial unless they are new RAF pilots and in training to fly Tristar and they serve minimum time in the RAF before going to a commercial carrier. There just isn't enough time left on the remaining civil Tristars to have someone that doesn't have previous L-1011 experience to get hired into a program. There was probably pilots that flew for ATA that might have been junior on that airplane that at least was trained and would be a shorter qualification program to become trained in the procedures of the new airline so they would be the first choice in hiring a pilot, not someone who has no experience in the L-1011.
