this happens every time i fly to LHR--the f/a's walk around spraying some sort of insecticide..i usually fly on GF from auh to lhr but my mom's flown on brunei and ba and she said that hey did the very same thing...is this only on uk flights or on european flights as well? and why do they do this?

I've never seen it on flights between AMS and LHR, but it has been a while since I flew BA so it could have been introduced recently.
Best guess is they want to avoid biting insects that could transmit diseases on board, especially mosquitoes.

On every flight into LHr i've been on it's never been done, and i have been on hundreds of Euroepan and International flights.
It is normaly always done on International flights going into Australia or New Zealand. Although there are a few occasions when it does not happen.
