Right. Airport in the Sky is the only airport. This is CIB. The only Sky Harbor I know is PHX.
Avalon and Two Harbors are heliports, at least they were when I used to fly there in the late 70's on Sikorskys. The seaplane bases are gone if I recall rightly.

Thanks for the info.....you do realize I didnt just pull the other codes out of thin air, I hope. Plus, I am referring to 1987 and looking at a 1987 OAG that lists FOUR different airport codes under Catalina Island.

Yeah, I guess CIB and AVX are different codes for the same airport and the others must be/been heliports or something? Not sure, but I think the current airport is the only landing strip theres been on the island, challenging place to build an airport.

Quoting PI767 (Thread starter): AVX - Avalon Bay
SXB - Avalo VOR/WP
CIB - Sky Harbor
THW - Two Harbors
AVX is where the seaplane base was (is?) at Avalon. Gruman Goose (Catalina Airlines, Catalina Seaplanes and later Golden West) service from LGB and San Pedro lasted until the late 70s I believe.
THW is also a seaplane base, but at the "Isthmus" towards the northwest end of the island. Hence the name "Two Harbors" Catalina Airlines also flew the Goose there too from Long Beach back in the day.
CIB is "Airport in the Sky" On top of the island about a 20 minute ride from Avalon. Long before TWE, in the early 70s, Golden West flew their Twin Otters there from LAX, LGB and SNA.
SXB is the VOR fix used for ATC.
Man, you're bringing back memories!

AVX is the airport on the hill, whenever we get guys looking for flight following that is where they are going.

I have a GW bag tag in my collection that says CIB.. so I thought such.
Quoting USXguy (Reply 6): Actually it's SXC for Santa Catalina VOR.
