Recently I've heard things that Westjet was starting up nonstop service between Vancouver and Hamilton. It seemed like a logical route to me, but I haven't seen it in writing, and their site didn't have anything on it. Is this true, and will it be with a 700?
Secondly, I also heard that the same thing was going to happen between Abbotsford and Hamilton. This would suprise me a bit, but I sure hope so. Is this true?

If it's true, I think it will be with the 700 they are recieving soon (July 30th?). The two 700's in service now run from Calgary to Hamilton non-stop (and back) and Edmonton to Hamilton non-stop. I'm pretty sure anyway.

You mean YYC, not YCC
Did you start a topic months ago asking if Westjet was going to start service to YKA? And that you were sick of seeing Dash 8's. I think you had asked if YKA's 6000ft runway was long enough for a 737. Was that you? I can't blame you for wanting to see some jet traffic. I'm lucky enough to live in YYC. I can't imagine being the airliner freak that I am and living in a town where the biggest was a Dash 8. I'd go insane!!!!

Yeah that was me. I actually lived in Airdre for a months before we decided to move back to Kamloops. I remember all the jets flying over to land Rwy 16. Ahh those were the days. I didn't want to leave but my parents insisited. Ohh well I looks like we might be moving out of Kamloops in a year or so and I'd really like to see them 737-200's here, even though I doubt it will happen.

I got an Email from Westjet some few odd days ago.
Heres what I got.
Hi, Bo - good to hear from you. IT is Information Technology (computers). I
am one of the team that is setting up so that computers on the aircraft can
communicate with the WestJet computers on the ground while they are flying.
We received the 2nd plane (C-FJWS)on June 19th with the 3rd (C-FKWS) coming
on July 30th.
I will send you a few pictures I took when I had a co-worker from Houston,
Tx here doing some software work for us. I was able to take him out to see
C-FIWS on the ramp in front of the hangar. Here's one of them attached.
Nice talking with you - keep in touch. I can let you know some delivery
dates if you like - we have another coming in November.
And the persons name which I will keep hidden.
and yeah.. Abbots-Yhm.. hmm.. weird,, odd to happen, maybe if its limited service liek Brandon and this other place.
And Westjet is indeed hungry for some US markets.. With America WEst gond sour, WJ can help replace its place by stealing soem US guys and bringin them to Canada.. heheh!
Expanding my global domination one spotter at a time..

I don't know... it's possible, I suppose, but there's a question of how likely or how soon it would be.
For one thing, they're operating YHM-YYC, YEG-YHM and also YYC-YOW with 73G equipment, and YYC-YQR/YXE-YOW flights are scheduled to be operated by the third aircraft when it arrives. This gives at least a few months timespan before they can operate YVR or YXX, but even then, is it the most likely? Granted, they're going about the eastern network in a slow, careful manner, but I think they'll have to worry about continuing building some eastern network as well. I guess in the end it may come down to whether route planners decide that marketshare at YVR is more important than eastern expansion, but IMO they can cover YVR with a YYC stop for the time being, and should look at network expansion and improving YYC-YOW/YHM schedules (ie- right now there's a YYC-YHM return flight, but also one that goes YYC-YOW-YHM-YYC, which needs a loop in the opposite direction IMO).

I've heard the same about the Vancouver-Hamilton route with the new 737's. Competion booard would be getting an earful if or when Westjet starts that route. Air Canada would probably lower fares alot, similar to the Toronto-Calgary route of no gone Roots Air. If we remember that, how much did they lower those tickets by? 500 or more dollars, it was a ton more to fly to Edmonton than Calgary, I believe nearly the same happened to Vancouver, not sure though. Abbotsford is in my opinion very unlikely, it's too close to Vancouver. The company would rather fly people to Calgary then Hamilton.
On another topic, sorry to put this in here...
Is anyone sure about the dates of this years Lethbridge Airshow? Also I would some interesting news about the Canadian Hangar in Calgary but I have to find it again....oops
