Just a quick note about the 764 class as I have to be up at 0530 for 0700 class. Today we covered the Aircraft general which includes wieghts, fluids, and just plane 'where is it' stuff for 6 hours. Then we spent 4 hrs more on the new Large Format Display System (LFDS) which is a type of upgrade from the EICAS system found on 757/767 classic, which is 'borrowed' from the 777. Ten hour days sure do make you enjoy the beer at night though!
The Flight Safety / Boeing instructors are all VERY professional and have already gone out of their way to help. When our class asked questions which the instructor couldn't answer, the question was researched and we had our answer in 1 hour or less!
I can only hope I'm that good when I have to be in front of a class.
Thursday we have to go to the hangar to see our 1st 764 (on second shift) for avionics familiarization. Then next Monday we return for the hydraulic / systems. The plane is scheduled out on Wednesday of next week. I'll keep ya'll posted.

From what I have heard the Delta pilots say about it it is a wonderful piece of equipment. We have the combination of Fly-By-Wire with a 15-Year old fuselage that has proven itself to be safe. The A-330 had a head start. In many aspects this race could be compared to the L-1011, DC-10 race.

First, thanks for the words of encouragement. I wasn't really sure if anyone other than mechanics would care to hear about it.
To answer some of your questions:
We haven't seen it yet. We are in a Flight Safety International / Boeing Facility in Tukwilla (I think) which has been described as about 1 hr travel time from the aircraft (Boeing Field ?). We had some late afternoon sun and two of my classmates claimed to have seen the 764 test bird heading away from SEA, but I wasn't so lucky.
Souviniers....hmm. I need some for myself. They have a gift shop where you can buy everything and anything you can put a Boeing logo on (even a ball cap with 'DC-9' on it; that's GOTTA hurt) but it is pricey. If you want me to, I can shop for all ya'll
The instructors are all FSI employees, not Boeing, so they don't seem to have an 'ownership' mentality. They are there to present us with the material, which is still changing as modifications are being made to software and some hardware. Many of the topics we have touched on already have had stories attached like, "We were told six months ago that this was just like the 767 Classic, but two weeks ago Boeing engineering told us that wasn't correct, it should work like this instead."
As in instructor, I can sympathize; there is nothing worst than having to tell a class "this page in your book is wrong, cross that out, this should read as......."
It gets real old, real fast.
Todays class was the completion of the LFDS, the Warning Electronics Unit (generates all the warning lights, tones, EICAS messages, etc), and the beginning of the Flight Interphone System ( pilot to pilot, observers, flight attendants, and pushback crew) and how it interfaces with radios, aural nav and satcom. I'll be the first to admit I feel a little over my head, as I have never worked these systems (I am what Delta designates 'Aircraft Skill'[ engines, cables, flight controls, airconditioning, some hydraulics ] not 'Avionics'), but we will have study groups, and I'm at least familiar with the theory behind this stuff.
If anyone has techincally based questions (except Airbus personnel ;-) ), please feel free to ask them. I don't mind getting the answers to those I don't know as it helps me learn too.
Well, I guess I'll turn in now, to dream of tomorrow's exceitment (insert puking noise here).
