Just received this notice from public relations at LAX, thought some of you might be interested.

Sorry for the late notice but LAX Airport Ops just approved this afternoon Atlantic Aviation’s last-minute request to conduct an event on their ramp area. Boeing will fly in a test B 747-8 freighter tomorrow, August 19 between 10:45 am and 11 am, and stay on the ground 90 minutes to two hours for speeches and presentation before taking off. This will be the first time the B 747-8 lands at LAX. They haven’t determined yet which side (north or south) of the airfield the plane will land. But, the plane will taxi to Atlantic Aviation where it will be greeted by 300 to 500 Boeing employees from Boeing’s Hawthorne facilities who worked on the aircraft. The event is closed to the public, but plane-spotters should be able to see the aircraft from the bluffs along “Little Imperial” on the south side of the airport, and the aircraft has to taxi past the LAX Flight Path Museum on its way to Atlantic Aviation’s leasehold, which is located a short distance east of the Flight Path Museum.

Happy spotting!

It's been here a few times already. Both times it has landed on 25L. Also, it has always landed, taxied to the cargo area (Imperial Terminal), spent around 90mins here, then departs. Looks like it'll be doing the same this time.

Looks like a flight plan has been filed: PAE SEA J5 SUMMA Q9 DERBB FIM SMO SADDE6

The SADDE6 arrival is the one they do from the north where you fly downwind of LAX and once you hit downtown LA, you do a u-turn to line up for 24R. The previous 747-8s that flew in filed for the SADDE6 arrival too however, once they hit Santa Monica (SMO), they cut across LAX flying directly overhead from the NW to the SE towards Long Beach. They then did a u-turn towards the north to line up for 25L. Perhaps it will do the same this time.

Some or all of these employees will actually be Triumph Group (formally Vought) employees who build subsections of the 747-8 at Hawthorne, CA.

Got a great view of it from 50 feet away, at the flight path learning center. Got a nice wave from the pilots!
