Why No Findings On Afriqiyah And ET Crash?

It's been a long time waiting for these reports to be published, apart from some initial press releases. Will the findings ever be made public in the interest of aviation safety? Two modern airliners fly into terrain despite all kinds of automation,

Thanks for any insight.

What crash was the EK one? I do not recall hearing about it.

The Afriqiyah crash investigation results may be delayed because investigators are unlikely to be in Libya considering the political situation.

Quoting ordjoe (Reply 2):

I think he meant EK's incident at MEL with A340.

I am also curious about the Ethiopian crash. Was considering opening a thread about it actually. What is the latest information on that?

Ethiopian

I think the civil war in Libya would have influenced any investigations occurring in the country, one may never be forthcoming, there was an accident in 1992 with a 727 that collided with a Mig 23 that still has no report that I am aware of.

The preliminary report for ET409 came out earlier this year ( http://www.lebcaa.com/pdfs/Investigation%20Progress%20Report.pdf ), read much the same as the Kenya Airways CFIT accident on takeoff from Douala, and the Flash Airlines CFIT accident on departure from Sharm el Sheikh.

Much obliged - thank you!

I presumed since the BEA was assisting that there might have been some preliminary report on the Tripoli accident.

I think the ET crash in the sea was very similar to the KQ crash in Cameroon, CFIT, controlled flight into terrain because the crew was disoriented flying in the night and with bad weather...

The Afriquiyah crash it´s more difficult however I think it must be something similar, they went below the Decision Altitude and try to land when they couldn´t see the runway.... That´s my opinion only!!!

Reading the report linked by Zeke it mentions a report due shortly that will provide an analysis of what caused the ET crash.

As for Afriqiyah, since Gaddafi will be gone "in a matter of days", let's hope the new regime releases the findings.

The final ET409 crash report is supposedly going to be made public in the October timeframe based on the last media report out of Beirut, see: http://www.dailystar.com.lb/News/Pol...t-still-pending.ashx#axzz1VVid4dOA
