Back in the early 80's, Eastern Airlines had plans to buy two ex QF 747 200s if they was granted the MIA-LHR, but Pan Am was granted the route and EA started the MIA-LGW with DC10-30s.
Now those DC10-30s used to also fly into LAX, so I wonder, if EA did go ahead and buy the two 747 200s from QF, what would have been the chances of seeing one at LAX?

PS: I really wished EAL got the MIA-LHR route. Do not get me wrong, I a big fan of Pan Am, but it would been nice to see a 747 200 with the hickey stick livery.

Qantas never delivered the two 747-200 to Eastern, the case you are referring to is when PA took over National. The CAB approved the merger except for MIA to London, since PA was 1 of 2 USA LHR airlines it got teh route back in 1980.

Air Florida did start MIA to LGW flights in 1982 , when AF went under EA got the route and purchased 3 DC-10-30 from Alitalia. Eastern started Miami to LGW flights in 1986 and lost their shirts on a route with 3 other airlines. BA, PA and a newbie called Virgin Atlantic all flew 747 to London. Eastern started Miami to London flights on 6/1/86 it was out of London by 10/1/86. It lasted 4 months.

You are aware that EA did lease 747s off and on from Pan Am, right?

And they did make periodic visits to LAX.

Well just take a peek at the A.net database...you'll be surprised at what's there...

Pan Am cheatlines with EA logo...

Or Full Eastern colors...

I even have a photo somewhere of a 'ten window upper-deck' 747 somewhere, that too was a Pan Am ship.

...but as nice as these are..if there is a real 'airline god'.. he'll lead me to the fella who took '8mm or 16mm' or even film footage of these babies..just one will do. Actually I did find a distance climbing shot of Eastern 747 that was used in commerical for Central America. But it just doesn't quite cut it.
