I saw a Aerolineas Argentinas A340 in HKG today. Any idea what it was doing there? I didn't know that Aerolineas has regular flights to Hong Kong!

They don't. It's probably a delivery flight of an ex-CX A343.

Please insert a "smart" joke here.

I would agree. Or maybe some maintenance/re-paint?

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Indeed, it is a delivery flight of an ex-CX A343 and the first AR A340 in the new livery

That's great! So if anyone is interested I will try to upload the pictures I took as soon as I get a good connection here in China, even though those pictures are not in good quality, as I took them from inside the terminal building!

Sexy.

I really do love AR's new livery. It's probably one of my favorites flying.

Much better than mine! When I saw this bird taxing first I thought it was Air Tahiti Nui, just when it got closer, for my astonishment I realized it was Aerolineas!

Certainly one of the best. Hope the bird brings a good profit to AR as it ramps up to join Skyteam.

Big question is, will it have Cathay's flatbed business product onboad. If so they should Immediately dedicate the aircraft to sydney, QF has got almost all the business traffic as a result of the product difference. if it's high gross weight they should start going nonstop a few times a week.

Their A342s are scheduled to fly here. It'd mean getting rid of that A342 fleet first if that were to happen. I'd assume that they'd have more of their seats somewhere in Buenos Aires to fit into this cabin..

It's all about the destination AND the journey.

Seeing as QF is pulling out of EZE in just over 6 months I doubt that they're going to be too concerned. The business traffic will want the direct flight rather than the connection in SCL (having said that AR flies via AKL so it ends up being the same number of stops, so the shift may not be that dramatic -- will likely come down to the timings of the new QF SCL flight)

The timings of QF's new SCL service is irrelevant. LAN will be able to offer QF multiple daily connections to/from Buenos Aires via SCL. LAN operates SCL-EZE 7x daily and SCL-AEP 3x daily, (except on Saturdays when LAN operates SCL-AEP 2x daily). Many passengers from BUE already connect via SCL to destinations that already have non-stop flights to/from EZE, i.e. AEP/EZE-SCL-BOG, AEP/EZE-SCL-MEX, etc.

Well they are actually. If the QF flight leaves from SCL at 5am while an AR flight leaves at say 6:30pm then you're gonna see most of that business market jumping ship so that they don't have to waste a day/spend a night in SCL en route back to SYD. Now QF aren't that stupid, but they have lost the nonstop advantage, so business pax are more likely to at least consider AR now.

The QF flight won't depart at that time since QF will also receive connections from destinations other than BUE, i.e. GIG, GRU, etc. Secondly, offering connections to/from AEP will be appealing to business pax since AEP is located in downtown Buenos Aires. Thirdly, OW has a huge frequent flyer base in BUE, plus LAN and QF offer a superior product as compared to AR.
