I was driving by today and it was a gorgeous morning that almost reminded me of September 11th a decade ago....I was wondering, when did the Newark Air Traffic Control tower open? I seem to recall it was either shortly before or after the attacks...Either way, I was wondering if the current ATC Tower was the same one in use the morning of 9/11?

The new tower began operations in early 2002. The building was substantially completed by 9/11 but it took some time for the FAA to install, calibrate, and test all the equipment before decommissioning the old facility.
JFK's has been gone a long time. When was EWR's taken down? Where did it used to be?
The old tower was torn down sometime in 2002/3. The "Ballpark" ramp and adjacent deice pad (where most CO widebodies at EWR spend their days in between flights) is the site of the former tower and operational facility.
