Hello,
Air France is the launch of the new GE CF6-80E1A3. This new version of the CF6 is the highest in term of thurst (72,000 pounds)
and incorporatesa new high-pressure turbine (HPT).
AF chosed the GE as it is already a great customer of the company (= discount) and operates the CF6 on all 747s (except -100s to be retired very soon).

The new GE engine sounds really good. GE is making a big push to make their engines leading edge in aerospace and the CF6-80 series has as good a record as any out there, especially with regard to ETOPS.
