Air Austral Returns 777 To Lessor

With the delivery of a new 77W Air Austral has offloaded ILFC-owned 772ER F-OPAR, which is going to Russian Orenair.

Thanks for rectifying me. I only remembered they got a new 777 in the last weeks, and thought it would be a 77W like the last one. I guess the next 77E leaving will go to Orenair then as well.

Finally I can talk about this! My dad got this mission in May, to get a 6 year old or less 772 (not necessarily ER) and sell it to a Russian friend of his, so he was the man who dealt between him and Air Austral. I was helping him thru this and in the end this was the best choice. I've heard it will maybe be in a all-business class config. In early August, he got to CDG and to the AF maintenance base (where Air Austral has their maintenance) and checked the plane. Good to see its finally thru!

Since arriving in SIN on 2 September 2011, F-OPAR has been given a new engine and a new coat of paint (Orenair's livery). Hopefully, an air test flight will soon be conducted.

As far as I remember they said the A380 would be for there new low cost start up...

I hope to visit Reunion one day, it seems to me a very interesting island with a great landscapes (volcanoes!) and beautiful diving opportunities. Flights are immensely expensive though, € 1800 from AMS in Y. So, perhaps this A380 LCC will make it more affordable. Will be interesting to see how Reunion airport can cope with 840 pax from one flight...

According to wikipedia the 77Ls have been bought to offer direct flights from Mayotte, another overseas departement close to Madagascar, to France, something the 77E and 77W cannot do mainly due to the restricted airport there.

When ordered, all Eco-service was intended for these planes. Odd, but thats what they said. Only reason that makes sense is France plans to boost Reunion tourism.

AFAIK the A380 will indeed be all Y with 800+ seats and be used for flights not (only) to Reunion but also to the French Carribbean. Talk about competition to those destinations: Air France, Air Caraibes, the UU low cost...

Does anyone know how they are doing on their Reunion-Sydney-Noumea flights. There is virtually no advertising here in the Australian market to either Noumea or Reunion, or even onwards to France, which seems like a lost opportunity to me. A trip to Paris with a stopover in Reunion or Mauritius sounds very enticing. Reunion would admittedly have to do a bit of a tourism push here though as many people don't know where it is.

I've heard that Austral is not necessarily interested in the Australian market but is there really enough demand for France-Noumea, especially when passengers can fly Noumea-Tokyo-Paris?

I have to say that I didn't expect to see Austral's Australian flights to still be around, although it's great to see such an exotic carrier on our shores.

My birth place. It is indeed quite amazing, a bit like Hawaï, but I advised Madagascar though.

AFAIK, they took over from Air Madagascar on the TAN-RUN-BKK run, albeit they only do the RUN-BKK bit. So it is a regular flight normally.
