WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares what is for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

HOW DO I READ IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Non-daily operations create fractional weekly service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. If a flight operated 5 days out of 7, it would show 0.8 flights.

WHY ARE THERE WEIRD FREQUENCIES AT Macedonian Airlines (Greece)">IN FAR AWAY MONTHS FOR LCCs?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. Their schedules may also end mid-month. If B6 loads their schedule until Jan15, all flights in Janaury will show half frequency because of the way the report is created.

WHY IS A WHOLE AIRLINE'S SCHEDULE SHOWN AS CHANGING FOR A FUTURE MONTH?
Similarly to the previous question, some airlines load their schedule from nothing inside the 9 month window of this report. When their schedule is extended it will show as new service because there was no previous schedule to compare to. In some instances I will show a more valid comparison against another period.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE PINNACLE
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THE FREQUENCY DOESN'T SHOW A CHANGE, E.G. 4>4
This happens as a result of rounding. There is a change in service that is large enough to be listed, but through rounding it does not appear.

I marked some of the ones I thought were interesting with an "*".

I'd thought they were going back to the original plan of 4X a week for the off-season. AM cut one flight a week from FAT-GDL this month just as they did on SMF-GDL. Y4 is finally pulling ahead of AM at FAT in terms of passengers carried but the fall traffic is weak for both carriers.

FWIW, this is just a correction on what was loaded in last week's posting, when amidst other cuts Frontier showed increases to MKE-MCO. This is the line from last week's entry:

MKE-MCO appears planned to continue on as 1x, and the increases to 2x or 3x in Jan/Feb/Mar do not appear to have been real.

I don't really watch them very closely, but it looked like reversals of a few weeks ago where there were dramatic cuts...I defer to somebody who follows them.

I wonder if they waited to announce the cuts until the investor conference. They could have been zeroed out weeks ago.

It is...last year was 10x/week...however with less feed they (in theory) should be able to handel a reasonable amount of traffic in the market without having to sell bargain-basement fares.

Like a lot of the rest of the MKE operation, the focus seems to be on primarily serving local traffic, and not have so much excess capacity which gets filled with junk. In theory this works. Hopefully it does in practice.

This re instates a cut made last month.

I flew LAS-PGA-CNY-DEN on ZK last month, just to add PGA and CNY to my log book. The LAS-PGA flight flew just north of the Grand Canyon, and the PGA-CNY flight flew along the shore of Lake Powell. Amazing scenery!

If anyone is flying between LAS and DEN, and is not in a hurry, I'd HIGHLY recommend taking ZK, because ZK's 1900s fly much lower than the competition's 737s and A320s so you get a much better view.

US is cutting back on the Shuttle flights it seems like. While the LGA flights don't surprise me here, DCA-BOS getting cut back does surprise me. I would think this would be one of US most lucrative routes.

Yes, but 1 RT is slim for March. The local market to MCO is pretty big.

Thanks! I get disappointed then it does not generate more news. This edition was a little slow in my opinion.

I believe those are really heavy cutbacks during the Holidays. I think that is pretty typical of past years.

I think at one point last winter MLI-MSP was down to one frequency a day, so I'm glad DL is seeing the obvious light and building it back up. Historically, that's been a stronger route than MLI-DTW.

For those that don't know this unusual symbol its Telluride Airport in Colorado the one actually in the town its America's highest commercial airport. Not to be confused with Montrose/Telluride Airport MTJ which is the one most of the commercial traffic is to and is a decent drive away. Its funny cause TEX just got a new runway so this would be a huge reduction in service if it were true?

I almost put an * next to that one, but people say I'm rooting for the death of CVG so I left it alone. Isn't F9 still in DEN-DAY? I'm sure that is draining passengers. I also thought MEM-FLL going down to 1 rt in peak season was pretty depressing.

I just checked on US website and the flights were not there any more for 12/24 and 12/17.

I believe the US employee website said something about losing the Dash-8 stations because of the Mesa drop. If a CRJ now cannot do it, at least temporarily service is kaput.

DSM-MSP is currently operating 6 per day now, and stays at 6x at least through March. This is an extension of status quo.

CVG-DEN is currently at 1 at day, the 2nd flight was cut I believe in mid-August at the end of the summer schedule. This is just an extension out of what they are currently operating, so it looks like they aren't planning as of now to bring back the 2nd flight (but as always that could change). DL did bring back the 2nd SFO-CVG flight and is bring back a 2nd CVG-MDT flight.

The only interesting things I see are that CVG-DEN sees a 757 instead of a 738 on Thursdays in October and there is no CVG-DEN flight on Saturdays. I know CVG-ers get excited to see a 757 these days. The aircraft flys ATL-CVG on Wednesday night, RONs, and then flies CVG-DEN on Thursdays. A 2nd flight, an afternoon CR9 on CVG-DEN flies briefly again over the Christmas holiday period.

Another interesting footnote is that I noticed my December DTW-DEN flights were changed from 757s to MD-90s.

LA is receiving new a/c soon in order to increase frequencies from SCL for the high season and LP is not receiving new a/c until FEB after the runway at LIM reopens from 1AM-7AM. It will operate 4x weekly for the high season and beginning in FEB, LP's schedule will change again when the runway at LIM reopens.

Here is the US Statement on this again, US is blaming Mesaba for pulling their aircraft...

We made the decision to pull our seasonal winter service between PHX and TEX, which originally was scheduled to
operate Dec. 16 through the first week of April. To reduce future bookings, we zeroed out the service and it will be pulled from the system this Saturday, Sept. 17. Jason Reisinger, director, Route Planning, said, “This decision was primarily driven by Mesaba’s exit and our need to backfill that schedule, which left us without the necessary aircraft for this winter’s TEX service.”

No, it's not a typo.

ZK's route map shows they fly LAX-PRC-FMN-DEN. This is their only flight through PRC. They do not fly from PRC to LAS or PHX.

In looking at their route map, it's a little surprising to see they have no links between their ABQ operation and the rest of their system. They fly ABQ-Silver City and ABQ-Clovis, but do not have any flights from these three cities to any other cities they serve. I would have thought they would extend one of their LAS-FMN flights to ABQ, just to bridge aircraft to/from their ABQ network.

They did indeed. And what's even more surprising is that CVG-SAN appears to be sticking around year-round after DL seasonally suspended it last year, I didn't even think they were going to bring it back. CVG-west coast has stayed surprisingly strong with the exception of DEN.

I don't really understand how pulling Dash-8's from YV helps to backfill XJ at LGA, unless EN is going to pick up YV's used Dash-8's.
