According to my ground school notebook, the GE CF34-3A1 Turbofan engine used on the Canadair Regional Jet weighs in at 1,640 pounds.

If you add the two engine weights together (3,280 lbs) and use a typical BOW of 31,000 lbs. you can see that the engine weight is approximately 10.5% of the total aircraft basic operating weight.

I hope this helps.

Happy flying!!!

RJ

I read that a 747 and 777 engine weigh around 8000 lbs. And a 737, 757, 767 engine at about 6500 lbs. Hope this helps!

My posts/replies are strictly my opinion and not that of any company, organization, or Southwest Airlines.

Go to a library which subscribes to Aviation Week and Space Technology. You can find engine weights in its annual Source Book issue which is published in January.
