Ok I have a paper to do for my marketing class and I decided to do it on a business proposition on starting an Airline serving mainly the Caribbean and part of South America. Anyway I need a little info onthe 727. First off how much runway does it need to takeoff at max. takeoff weight from an airport that is at sea level, with the tempature around the high 80-mid 90 and around 75% humidity? Also what would the range be if this airports runway is only roughly 7,000ft long. Finally what aircraft right now can take off from a runway with the items said earlier and be able to atleast fly to EWR or JFK at max. takeoff weight??
Thanks in advance

P.S. I'll post my proposal here after it's done....it's a serious proposal and if it had the finacial backing I can see it working.

...deserve some pretty serious answers.

Runway analysis data does not give TO distances. It merely tells you what weight you can operate at safely from a specific runway.

Secondly there are as many differnt max TO weights for the 727 as there are aspirin in a bottle of Bayer. Depending on model.

As per AA runway analysis a 727 with -15 engines can operate from MIA on 09L (10502 feet long) at a brake energy limited weight of 194,700 pds at 32C.

IGW 727's are not capable of operating at MGTOW out of a 7000 foot strip at those temps. With a weight reduction down to about 180,000 pounds you should be fine on most 7000 foot runways depending on any second segment climb penalties for obstacle clearance. Which changes with every airport.

Airliners aren't dispatched accordingto max TO weight. There are weight limiting factors that need to be taken into account such as brake energy limits for aborted TO, second segment climb penalties, and tire speed which are alldifferent for every runway. The MGTOW is simply a structural weight limit for the aircraft. That doesn't mean the aircraft may be safely operated from a particular runway with particualr conditions.

A 727 doesn't have the range for a trip like that either.

It sounds like an L1011/500 or a A310 might be your best bet. I asume your going with used AC.

After further consultation with my associates it was brought to my attention that I am way off base in recomending the L1011/500, and the A310. The A310 has not the range, and the L1011/500 would be overkill given it's 7,000 mi range.

An A300 or a 767 would be a better all around choice given the range requirments.

There performance is affected little by high temps, and has the range necessary for the long legs involved. Being a Boeing man I would opt for the 767/100 with the GE CF6 power.

Thanks...that's what I was looking for.....I'm originally from the Caribbean and worked for AMR (AA) as a gound handler at St.Thomas U.S.V.I. (STT). All AA would fly out of there was 727, 757, and for a while A300-600R. But I wasn't sure what type of aircraft I would need to fly a segement from STT to say EWR. Now off to type my paper for my class. I'll post the gist of my report on here when i get done with it...Thanks again

P.S. I think i'm going to go with a fleet mainly of 762 and 737NGs for my paper...I love all aircraft but I'm a Boeing fan at heart.
