First Lady in town to open the new terminal in PWM - Will significantly increase the terminal space. Also, leaves room for extra gate spaces - everyone's keeping their fingers crossed on WN expansion. Should see how things change over next Spring.

Looking forward to seeing some of our fellow netters tomorrow for the open house.
Cheers!

Please don't hold your breath as WN has cut back at MHT which PWM is in the 'WN effect'

It's a good looking terminal. Glad to see Mainiacs are forward thinking.

Good for PWM! This expansion doesnt look excessive, either, just an incremental expansion, so hopefully won't have too big an effect on fees.

Visited work yesterday (I'm not currently working, back at school) to check out the expansion. It's really, really nice.

Airtran which has been purchased by Southwest flies into PWM.

Great news to hear for PWM, my favorite little airport in the US. Have a lot of great memories there. For a smaller airport, I never felt that the place was particularly quiet as there was almost always a flight on the ground. I think the Kennebec Journal article may actually be a bit harsh on PWM's existing facilities. Busy, yes, but even at its busiest, I'm not sure the place was ever gridlocked or bursting at its seams except for oddly enough, the baggage claim area, which KJ doesn't even cover. Airside was actually pretty nice with a lot of light and a few f&b outlets and a news stand operated by a friendly elderly couple who would do just about anything to make a sale(I've seen them chase after customers when they realized they in fact had what the customer wanted!).

Does anybody know(PWMRamper?) whether PWM added anymore baggage claims? That is one area I always felt could use improvement as the existing three just wasn't enough to handle peak volumes. Also, is the UA/CO gate extension still around, or was that shut down with the expansion?

I don't think they did. I was there in June and all I saw being added was gate areas.

I assume you're referring to the baggage claim area before it was renovated several years ago? They ripped out the old carousel style claims that had been there for years and modernized/renovated the claim area about 3-4 years ago.

Yes, the UA/CO gate extensions are still in use. Right now the only two airlines using the new terminal addition are US and B6. The old facilities won't be abandoned.

It looks nice. The expansion increases the size of the existing terminal by 40%. PWM has come a long way in my 30 years here. Too bad it went from having upwards of 22 mainline flights per day 10-15 years ago, to being overwhelming dominated by RJ's these days. I guess it's the same story at a lot of smaller cities?

Unfortunately no. Gate 2 (well, now Gate 1) still exists in all its splendor. I believe it's staying too.

Yes it does. The gate is also shared by AC beechcrafts (it is a real pain to board in winter with those stands). The airport looks really nice with updated parking facility. Only needs more flights to fill up the gates now!

Arrrg, good old Gate 2 (I guess it is now 1). I have my share of injuries from random pieces of metal from those shoddy pieces of workmanship! So since B6 and US moved to the new part, what will happen to the gates in the old part that they abandoned? Could UA/CO take over those? Is anybody going to?
