Hey everyone,

I dont have time to search, but is the new UA/CO ramp unionized or not? I know CO's ramp wasnt unionized to the best of my knowledge (but I could be wrong) and UA's was. What was the outcome of it?

CO ramp was Teamster. UA was IAM. Now IAM covers entire ramp group.

I have a very close friend with IAM, he was helping the organizing with IAM/CO to vote IAM. Long story short it got pretty ugly between IAM and IBT, with IAM wining the vote. CO will go over to IAM, as far as seniority, wages etc I imagine they will be brought online with UA's scale.

Unrealistic as that would mean CO rampers would be taking a pay cut considering they make more than their UA counterparts. I assume the next logical step would be a joint contract consolidating both groups.

The IAM won the election back in August for the whole ramp. We voted in the IBT but had to have another election for the combined ramp. The IAM has to administer our contract until another one is finished for the combined group. The IAM has to finish the UA contract while working on a joint contract, because UA is still working under their old BK contract. They want to get their old wages back, and bring us (CO) up as well and extend the scope to protect our stations, and cargo (we still maintain our cargo) The company has dragged out the UA negotiations, which the UA people has a lot of retro coming to them. We will see how this all plays out. We still cannot work each others planes until this is all settled. A lot of stuff is still going on behind the scenes, and I hope that it will get squared away soon.

But that may or may not be a sticking point in any contract. Retro is a main tenet in any contract to help the company negotiate the contract to a conclusion. I don't know all the details to their negotiations over the years (I can't speak in that because I am S-CO) but one of he main things they are stressing is to get their sacrifices they lost thru bankruptcy back. Somewhere in the likes of WN type money. Our IBT contract has raises throughout but lacks scope. (The scope lasts only till the end of the year.) As far as a joint contract, we want an industry LEADNG contract. Nothing less will do. Period.

I hear ya. However, if any major employee group wants a WN-type contract, they will need to accept WN-type work rules. Are the rampers willing to accept that?

BTW, I am an ALPA member so I understand. We have a lot of guys say they want WN-type pay but in reality they would freak over the work rules.
