I know there are some insiders in the industry on this board, and I was wondering how much for example American Airlines pays for its RDU gates, or how much Midway pays for its San Jose gate? How much does UsAir pay for their gates in Harrisburg? What are the average costs for gates and service in class B airports and class A airports?

FrontierMan- I have no answer to your question, and I am wondering that myself. I do think however, that airlines who have a hub at an airport probably get a little discount if they have over a certain amount of gates(examples:UA at DEN, AA at DFW, CO at IAH, DL at ATL)

There is no fixed answer to this. Every airport has its own versions of gate leases that range from longterm exclusive use deals to 30 day renewable use-em-or-lose-em deals to daily common use gate assignments.

Take Delta at ATL for example. The vast majority of Delta gate leases in ATL are "exclusive use" contracts through September 2010, which means that Delta gets to keep them till that date regardless of whether they reduce their schedule. These encompass all 8 T gates, all 30 A gates, all 34 B gates, 16 gates on C concourse and 7 gates on D concourse for a total of 95 of 98 outstanding gate leases held by Delta.

The only exceptions are gates D-33, D-35 and D-38 which Delta has on renewable 30-day contracts. These are "use 'em or lose 'em" gates and the trigger mechanism is an average of 7.3 daily departures from each Delta gate (excluding common-use gates on E concourse which are assigned on a daily basis), calculated on the first day of each month with a one-month grace period before default.

B747-43B: Is E concourse the International concourse at ATL? If so, what is each gate's aircraft capability?

Frontier- Midway does not have its own gate at SJC. I believe their ground operations are performed by either Delta, or CO.

E concourse is indeed the international concourse in ATL. All gates there are common use and are assigned on a daily basis by the airport authorities. Each gate is capable of handling everything from a CRJ to a 744.

Don't know about the examples you mentioned but I was told once that to rent one gate at BRU terminal B costs 13 million francs a year , that's about $300,000.

Best regards,
