Hey everybody!!
I'm hoping to hop on an MD11 ASAP before they're no longer around. I've never been on a three-holer and they are my absolute favourite, and I realize how slim my chances are getting to fly on one. I was wondering what cities KLM flies into currently with them, and where they will be flying them this winter. I am looking at the flights out of Montreal at the moment because that is what is closest to me (I live near YYZ). I believe they will stop flying them there during the winter, but am not sure when. Any chance they will be using them out of YYZ? Thanks y'alls!! xoxo

As an interesting aside, KLM will be operating 3 weekly additional AMS LAX flights with MD11 on top of the daily B74E/B744 flights. KL603/604 AMS LAX AMS should be operating with MD11 between June and September 2012.
KL603 AMS LAX 1255 1520 MD11 Mo Thu Sat
KL604 LAX AMS 1720 1250 MD11 Mo Thu Sat
Also operated by MD11 next summer will be flights between AMS and YUL, YVR, HAV, PUJ, BON, AUA, CUR, PTY, IKA and DEL.

Oh, I'm totally going for it! But, I'm using a student loan that I never knew I had because I've never had to use a student loan in my life. Is that bad that I'm using school money to fly on aircraft for the sake of flying? hahaha. I'm jobless right now so I have no choice! :P

Well from a pilots and aviation enthusiast point of view I can perfectly understand you. From the other side it is not the best thing to do... But what the hell, go for it and enjoy it

Saw a KL MD-11 pushing back from UIO Monday morning about 9:20. Not entirely sure what it was doing, maybe a charter? I have a hard time believing KL would run a daytime UIO-AMS flight. Perhaps it's a tag-on from AUA/CUR, and headed back to one of those locations before heading home?

When I was in UIO myself I saw the MD11 of KLM as well. Looks like they fly there with the MD11 from time to time.

That's cool. It was a funny sight as well. We were in our MD11F on the taxiway in UIO, then the KLM MD11 landed, then the MartinAir Cargo MD11F... 3 taxiing MD11s at the same time in UIO... I have a few pictures of them, but not here. And not best quality...

This is the first time the MD-11 is returning to LAX since Varig, IIRC.

There were a lot of rumours that this route was going to be AMS - UIO - GYE - AMS (and that the frequency for BON was going to be reduced to two or three times a week). Are there any updates? Maybe in the Summer schedule?

KLM have been flying MD11 into UIO-GYE ever since DC10 left the fleet..... First through CUR and later through BON.
Starting winter 11/12 the 777 will take over AMS-UIO-GYE-AMS. 3 times a week.

Seriously: I have exactly the same thoughts, and am considering my options for next year. The choices are easier though, if I think about going to the carribean from Europe.

I have the same anxiety you have to get on an MD11 before they are gone. Decided to spent some time in FL this winter, so had to choose between LH's AMS-FRA-MIA v.v. on an A388 for €430 and KL/DL AMS-ATL-MIA-AMS for €520. Decided the MD11 was worth the extra money, so I choose the latter option.

I do hope that is true. Seeing an A330 at the gate coming February would be such a bummer..

thanks so much for all the information! i totally agree -- use my loan money to fly on the rare planes i MUST get on. It's great to know that KLM will still be flying them into YUL year round!! This makes me very happy.
