When Will LGW Have Scheduled A380?

For a while it has been said that Gatwick is ready for an A380. Didn't they build those new stands to accomodate the A380... If any carrier would fly in an A380 it would be EK, so when do you think they will do this?

Probably a while off yet. Remember that they said the 2 daily MAN service was more profittable than the 3 daily LGW service when they announced the introducton of A380s to MAN; adding more premium seats to LGW is probably not what they want at the moment. Perhaps it's going to be the 600 seater A380 that may go to LGW?

The new stands, the 230s can park remote A380s, likely on LHR diversions. They are not suitable for normal operations as they are miles from both terminals. Emirates morning service is still a B772 a lot so not packed out just yet.

It isn't just EK (although, they will have the most A380s). I just do not see the other near term A380 operators going to LGW. The list:

SQ Do they even fly to LGW?
QF
LH Only if it is a stunt.
AF
EK    LHR will be all A388 first (see below too)
KE    The LHR slots are worth far more
CZ
TI
QR

Who is receiving the A380 near term who would consider LGW? It would be until BA has received more than a dozen. I'm not confident on VS receiving theirs.

Not a surprise. LGW will see an EK A380 some day. But likely not until they have a lower premium configuration.

Lightsaber

Nope, they are LHR.

I hope so! I know KE would do LHR before LGW with an A380 but you never know... they might.

Well for the next couple years I guess I'll try and focus on the 787 coming here. TOM are on the list to be the first airline in Europe to have a 787 so I know they will fly that from LGW.

Can an A380 go under that North Terminal bridge?

Gatwick has no stands on the Terminals for the A380 so they would need some work the terminals. Does anyone know what taxiways are A380 approved?

No it is too small for the A380, 747 can just barely fit. Ha it would have been an idea to build it for something bigger than a 747.

I'm waiting for Easyjet to order a few A380s with 'up yours Stellios' written on the side...

Skymark are planning to fly the A380 to London, it's possible they could choose LGW rather than LHR.

I'm surprised EK isn't doing this already; after all, they do fly 3 times daily to LGW.

VS to MCO and LAS is a possibility, but that's way down the road. VN starts to LGW shortly, but again, very early days and they're only twice weekly. Let's not pencil in the 380 just yet!

The new management at LGW is certainly achieving success is reeling in new airlines; I'm sure that they have discussed the possibility of A380 services with EK.

I'm not surprised. The A388 shifts the seats towards premium seating. LGW is lower yeild than MAN (per prior posts in this thread and I recall such statements). Thus, the A388s should go to other destinations where the A388 has a better chance of spiking yeild as well as numbers.

But how seriously? I doubt for EK service for years.
