Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has taken delivery of its first A330-200 aircraft fitted with a new "Sky Hub" that offers full broadband connectivity and live TV.
The new Global Communications Suite built by Panasonic offers passengers the opportunity to access internet, mobile phone services and live TV services. Gulf Air will offer two-way broadband connectivity at speeds of up to 50 Mbps, via an in-flight Wi-Fi network.
Gulf Air has confirmed that the Panasonic Global Communications Suite will be installed across the entire fleet of aircraft in the future.

I've flown GF before. Liked their service. Now if they can join OneWorld, that would be great.
I wouldn't be surprised if IAG eventually takes an ownership in GF as the Bahraini Govt IIRC is wanting to privatize GF. BAH would be a perfect hub to combat the "Big 3".

It's about time, the Ejets and new A320s have had basic interactive PTV, but its good that were finally moving onto something a tad closer to what the competition is offering.
I still have a Gulf Air letter dated 1999 when they received their first A332 speaking about the ''revolutionary'' entertainment system. It was such an advancement that if memory serves me well Airbus showed off the GF A332 at the 1999 Paris air Show. Twelve years later it's grown quite old, espically in the face of EK, EY and QR so its good that they do change it.
A high up manager in GF tells me that their losses are approaching $16 million a day, which unfortunately doesn't sound promising. Alas, we'll have to wait and see, but this is a good step in the right direction.

I still remember that time! I have some posters of the event and I was amazed at how the seats and entertainment were at the time.

That would be a run-rate of $480 million/month. Maybe he meant it was $16 million/month.

This cannot be possible. 3 years ago, at their peak losses time, they were making about $1million USD per day. However, one of the reasons why they brought in "Samer Majali" as a new CEO was based on his experience with RJ and how he managed to reduce their losses, and eventually make it a profitable/modern airline.

I agree that OneWorld would be a good alliance to enter, however don't you think that RJ is already covering the middle east region for OneWorld? I also think that GF still has a long way to go before reaching a level that enables it to be part of a global alliance.
