I noticed this picture today:

If you click it, it says that the aircraft is being retired after a long career. The aircraft is a 747-400. Why would it be retired after just a little while? The oldest 744s are only about 12.

This is the third thread on the exact same picture today. As said in the previous ones, the airplane is not being retired, it's most likely the captain's last flight.

It is probably the pilot, rather than the aircraft, that is retiring. The remark is simply, "Respect at the end of a long career"

That would make sense. Sorry that I posted this. I looked very carefully to make sure that there were no other posts about this and I didn't see any. I must have missed the others. I will suggest deletion of this thread.
