Wanted to know what dates Pan Am was still flying to South Africa
I remember being on a 747SP a few times.
(nothing really in panam.org or everythingpanam.com etc)

Don't know if there is anything more extensive in this site, but March 1969 route map shows Johannesburg. Maybe it'll lead you to another site with timetables, this really just shows route maps (and the ones without route maps have some historical info on what was occuring in that time period)

In April 1973 they had 2 707s a week JFK-JNB. One had 5 stops and the other 3 stops.
JFK-DKR-ROB-ACC-LOS-FIH-JNB (ROB = Monrovia, Liberia; FIH = Kinshasa, then Zaire, now Dem. Rep.of Congo)
In April 1979 it was down to once a week via Rio de Janeiro and originated in MIA, operating MIA-GIG-JNB. It was still a 707 but 3 weeks after that schedule became effective the MIA-GIG sector changed to a 747SP, with change of aircraft to 707 on the GIG-JNB sector.
Northbound it shows 2 stops JNB-MIA, one being GIG. Believe the other was a fuel stop only, possibly CPT due to JNB's high elevation, but the timetable doesn't indicate. In mid-May the northbound flight changed from a through flight number to a change of flight numbers at GIG, still 707 all the way. (the 747SP only operated MIA-GIG once a week). From/to JFK you could connect at GIG.
Pan Am must have dropped JNB sometime between April 1979 and April 1980 as it's not in the April 1980 timetable or any of the later 1980s timetables on that site.

My September 1982 schedule shows a 2x weekly JFK-JNB via Abidjan on the 747SP; by September 1983, they had dropped Abidjan completely from the network, so the JNB flight went via ROB instead on a 747 or 747SP depending on the day. IIRC, they had dropped JNB completely around 1980, but restarted it as a one-stop via West Africa a year or two later.
