Nothing came up in the search engine so I decided to post it here.

As of November 15, Austrian Airlines will be ending its service to Helsinki and Milan Linate.

Helsinki was operated twice a day on board Fokker 100 aircraft.

10:15-13:55 / 14:45-16:25 D
20:05-23:40 / 07:30-09:15 D

Linate was operated 6 times per week using a Fokker 70.

20:45-22:20 / 06:55-08:30

I am actually quite surprised that they are completely leaving Helsinki. Are the loads that bad that it would be more profitable to completely remove one daily flight in stead of completely removing the service?

Not really, the crew and aircraft overnight at HEL for an early morning departure. Great schedule for business travellers. Given the flight time, or other network requirements, it may be the only way to allow an attractive schedule or to allow onward connections to the rest of the OS network ex VIE.

Next flights: MAN-ORK-LHR(EI)-MAN(BD); MAN-LHR(BD)-ORK (EI); DUB-ZRH-LAX (LX) LAX-YYZ (AC) YYZ-YHZ-LHR(AC)-DUB(BD)

Well it's an evening departure out of Vienna with a morning departure out of Helsinki. If I am not mistaken a lot of OS' Middle Eastern flights arrive between 19:30 and 20:00.

A friend of mine at SZG told me that they were looking at adding more flights from the LH Hubs to VIE and the other Austrian cities.

Since those flights are operated by VO on the F70/100, could this be related?

But that means that there would be no direct Star Alliance link between the two cities. I would have supposed that there was some sort of demand. Could it be that they failed to attract transit passengers?
Austrian Airlines routes its passengers via Copenhagen to Helsinki.

Maybe KF can add HEL-VIE if the LF is good enough, though I suspect it is not.

Well I wonder if at least a singly daily could work. It's strange that they are not routing passengers via Germany...

HEL sees a lot of these because the flying time from major European cities is so long the can't do a early morning flight from their hub and be able to turn the aircraft and fly back in time to feed their connection flights as they can do in central Europe. At least BA, LH, KL, OS, BT and SK do this, which is pretty much every network carrier that operates to HEL.

I had booked tickets from OS to INN so I'm a bit disappointed because I was looking forward to traveling on a new aircraft type. Just hoping they would reroute us on a one stop flight through MUC or FRA instead of having to fly first via CPH to VIE and then to INN.

That is strange. Why not LH/OS to FRA or MUC then LH to HEL?

Maybe they want to route them via Copenhagen to increase the loads? Doubt that Copenhagen is cheaper than Munich or Frankfurt.
