Gold Transportation, a NJ based charter company, will begin offering sub-daily ACY-FLL public charters in January. The service will run from Jan-April. Flights will be operated by SkyKing. Gold has launched the website http://www.flyacy.com to sell tickets. Gold operated similar public charters in the 80's and early 90's before ending them in 93. According to their website, the 1st checked bag will be free, making them an interesting alternative to NK (if people find out about them and their fares are reasonable).

Interesting. From their website:
Gold has relationships with many Part 121 air carriers and currently utilizes three Boeing 120 passenger 737 advanced aircraft ...
and they have a picture of a 737-200. Would be great if they used such a "classic" jet!

Ironic how things can go full circle. Gold was a good part of the reason for the successful start of Sprit when they were Charter One w/ CV-580's back in the late 70's. As the DC-9's came on, they frequently served for Gold. Gold would later move on to many other charter carriers, as Spirit converted over to scheduled service. ACY was a great location in the early gaming days with DC-8, 707, 720, DC-10 and L-1011 operators bringing in the hoards of gamblers that were coming to see the Las Vegas of the East.

They seem to want $300+ one way or round trip...Unless Gold is planning on some serious junket-based gambling traffic from FLL, NK will likely kill this off.

Right now SkyKing has 2 737-200's based at ACY (251TR and 252TR), so there is a good possibility it will be a 200 series.. the only other plane it would likely be is the -300 series (307WA) that goes to ACY on weekends to fill the 3rd line of flying...

Skyking always is putting 732's into ROC from ACY. I'd pay it just to fly on a 732 ,again.

I hope this works out. Skyking has been having A/C issues lately with flying for Direct Air out of Lakeland Linder (KLAL) in Lakeland Fl. SY has been doing sub-service for them the last several weeks.

I know that Gold does charters from FWA as well. Not sure which airline they use here, though. G4 and V2 also operate charters from FWA (in the case of G4, in addition to scheduled service).

Quoting sbon (Reply 9): Is there a schedule yet for these 'chartered' flights?
The schedule is on the website... I actually went onto booking a res to see sked.. not too much in Jan. but seems like it picks up in Feb, Mar and Apr. should be interesting to see if it works.

Gold uses SkyKing exclusively right now... they were using Dynamic for a while, but it didn't last long, although ACY has a G4 charter this week, but not sure if its Gold or not

Was Gold Transportation the original "Florida Flights" operator from ACY pre-Spirit?

phllax...I use to take the Florida Flights operation all the time, when I lived in ACY in the 80's. They were operated by many carriers including All Star, Emerald, Spirit and a few others. Passengers had to sign a TPA (Tour Participation Agreement), because even though they were advertised with the idea that they were scheduled flights, they still were considered charter flights by the DOT and required passenger protection through a bond. I have no idea though if the DOT still requires this for charter flights today. I digress, but I cannot remember if Gold was the bonded tour operator, or not. I do have a faint memory that I think they may have been though.
Gold has been the dominating tour operator for non-scheduled flights at ACY since gaming passed in 1978. Many operators have come and gone in the 33+ years since. I use to run one of the operations that ran right up against them. After competing with them for about 10 years in ACY, we folded in 1998 after a harsh winter drained or bank account paying too many de-icing bills. I do have to give them credit though, for their longevity in a very difficult, low yield market.
