Wish TG had stuck with the maroon, this colour sucks, only looks nice in certain light when the metallic sheen shows up and it appears a brighter purple shade than the mauve.

The THAI 380's will have to be one of my favourites out there when they enter service.
I am looking forward to flying one of them into Bangkok.

By the way, TH 's 747 are a common sight in Phuket and Chiang Mai. Any idea if the 380 will be deployed initially on these domestic sectors, just the way China Southern are deploying theirs?

Thanks very much for the link. Do you mind giving us a short summary of what is written there? I assume the pictures were taken during client inspections in Nordenham, Germany, and in Filton, UK, correct?

I find it a pity that TG has decided to abandon the metallic purple color they used before and have gone for the plain purple color instead. The metallic purple was much nicer in my opinion. Why did TG abandon this color?

I am pretty sure that TG will operate flights to CNX or/and HKT - it will be a great training for the pilots on such s short hop between an international leg out of BKK

Will TG use the same first class seats on the A380 as the 744? If so, how many? Upper or lower deck?
Thanks!

I had a feeling something wasnt right when I saw the ex-Jet/Turkish 77W repainted in TG livery even in daylight it lacked that metallic sheen that made it worthwhile, this colour is horrible.

The only explanation is not maintainable nor cost effective.

Great news! I look forward to when the A380 goes in to service with Thai Airways.

Any chance it can fly from Los Angeles non-stop?

I've done that hop many times on their 747s.

The previous livery was so majestic. Too bad the A380 won't be in the old livery.

Just to be clear, I'm referring to the same livery they have now but they are using a different color purple now which in my opinion isn't as beautiful as the previous metallic purple they used. See the difference below:

The "older" purple was much more beautiful.

Just for the sake of clarity as the Google Chrome translator does the job rather to literally. The 2555 Thai Buddhist calendar correspond to September 2012 of the Gregorian Calendar. That gives us a time lead of 10 months. Jolly God, that's quite a long time it takes to build those birds from scratch. I was expecting to see her flying sooner than that.

What a shame that Thai threw away the tasteful livery they used to have and replaced it with something that makes the aircraft look like a bar of chocolate.    I wonder if anyone would oblige with a photoshop of what a TG A380 could ( and should) have looked like with the previous livery.

Well, 10 months will be just the time between transportation of the parts to Toulouse and delivery. I don't know how much time they need for producing all the fuselage sections and the wings.

Quoting ACES320 (Reply 14):

Roll-out from final assembly should be 3 1/2 months after all parts have arrived in Toulouse, which is tomorrow, when convoy 21/2011 arrives (the tail fin will come some days later per Beluga) + 3.5 months => middle of February 2012 but rather March 2012 because of the christmas holidays. First flight could be then in April 2012 or early May 2012.

Oh, this is good news. I was being told in school that it was actually already completed since some years but this was wrong, obviously.

The new shade is exactly what the older one appeared like when its metallic particles shined as seen on MD-11 pic, so basically they have gone for that shade minus the metallic effect, but the gold bits still seem to be metallic paint.

Yes, VS did the same with their metallic red color on the tail and engines which now is normal red on their A333's. That lasted even shorter compared to TG.

VS metallic red is back, the A330s only got the non-metallic paint due to delivery, while VS were working on perfecting the metallic version as it was chipping off from other aircraft, the A340s are now wearing the new metallic red, A330s will eventually get it too.

25 OA260 : Very nice . +1 Love that livery on the A380. There is a nice TR on it just posted also .
26 Post contains images ACES320 : Quoted from that article, it also says that the A380 are only for the LHR runs. Although the article is from 2008 is that still the case? What about
27 Post contains images MarcoPoloWorld : That's an absolutely comical translation!... Yeah, good to know that Thailand has been completed - because we're going to have to wait a few hundred
28 Post contains links and images Superfly : Thanks. I had no idea there had been a change in the type of paint used. This is the majestic livery I was referring too. View Large View MediumPhoto
29 nethkt : Maybe non-metallic Purple "Made in China" replaced the metallic Purple "Not made in China"? I'd say it's about cost of color itself plus etc. I am eag
30 kiwiandrew : Agreed, that was classy, the current livery looks like the wrapping from a box of cheap and tacky confectionery. (sigh!)
31 viasa : Any information about the registration of TGs first A380?
32 N14AZ : As per the production list of planespottingworld HS-MAR. That's also the registration used in the link provided by Simplikate.
