Noticed on Flightaware that Aeromexico flight 98 is stopping in SJD on the way to PVG this month (November) and part of December. Why is that? This flight usually operates via TIJ / MMTJ? Are they doing some construction at TIJ that prevents the flight from operating there this month?

Maybe they're trying to tap into the big Shanghai originiating leisure demand for foreign beach holidays? The beaches of Cabo are pretty nice compared to what you find in China. If the TIJ stop isn't generating enough O/D, then perhaps it's a good idea for AM to try a different stop, and where else but SJD.

Quoting DCAYOW (Thread starter): Are they doing some construction at TIJ that prevents the flight from operating there this month?
That´s the answer. TIJ is getting a much needed face-lift including the terminal, taxiways and the runway, which is currently 500 or 600 meters shorter. At 2960m that´s quite a cut, hence the move to SJD.
What exactly is being done, I don´t know, perhaps some fellow a.netters in the area can give us more details.
