With Boeing's order announcement today, total sales for these two ariplanes are:

747 - 1519

777 - 1302

The gap continues to close. The 777 sales story is even more impressive when you consider the first 747 sale was in 1966 (45 years ago) vs 1990 for the 777 (21 years ago).

Any speculation on when the 777 will catch up? I think it will be in 2014.

Boeing seems to be looking at around 100 sales a year for the 777, so 2014 sounds reasonable to me, as well.

2014 is plausible. If 777 sales continues in 2011 pace, it could happen already in 2013!

DAE certainly helped close the gap by switching 747-8F's for 777-F's.

Don't forget that the global air travel market has grown many times over since the early days of the 747.
