EK - New Planes Order - What New Routes?

Regarding last announcement of EK for additional order for planes, which new routes we can expect to be announced?
Of course, some of the new A/C will replace the currents which are getting older, but most of them will extend the EK fleet.

Actually i think QatarA340 had a very good observation in the other thread regarding the latest EK order with Boeing. I doubt we will see a lot of new routes coming up.

Yes, I see that Emirates will standardize its fleet around 77W and A380s for the moment. Since their growth is limited by traffic rights mainly which limit the number of destinations or the number of flights, going bigger is their way to go.

Those most likely will be replaced by the 50 A359 on order, on a one to one basis, as well as the 20 A35J, unless that order is in doubt? Highly unlikely.

Truly, where are they going with all of those planes?

I would like to ask the following question:
At one point in time, how many airplanes(regardless of size) does Emirates need to cover its current network and its future expected destinations?
I know it's a broad question, so an approximation will do.
Currently they have about 100 destinations that are served by about 150 frames with about 230 on order (per wiki).
with about 50 to be phased out in the next 5 years, that leaves a fleet >300 widebody frames, operational, considering they are taking all of their A380 by 2017-2018, and same goes for 77W..


What's the maximum sustainable fleet size for Emirates for the bilaterals they have right now?
That is: What's the maximum point of expansion Emirates can hit, fleet wise, before they trigger a collapse, or provoke other countries to tie them down?!

This is beyond "mine is bigger than yours".

There is a business plan that's driving EK, but how sustainable?

I'd imagine, as long as the Asian economy is booming, then very sustainable

I think there is some dissatisfaction with A from EK regarding the 359, both as to capability and schedule. So it's possible the order could be at some risk, particularly the 35J.

Tim Clark has fairly recently said covering the Pacific remains a large goal. So EK will need to negotiate 5th freedom rights ex HKG/NRT/INC/SIN -> North/South America to enable this. If they can achieve the right outcome in negotiations, then they'll need a passle of frames.



Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
