In a Jetstream journal there was a picture showing both 747s next to each other. I will try to make a scan and post it here at the weekend (if I don't receive an email from a lawyer in the meantime...).

These two B747 were accompagnied by a 3rd one, but this one was never painted in full LN colors, it had the registration 5A-DIL. the 3 airliners were sold to Varig as PP-VNA, VNB and VNC, after a storage period in Everett.

But i did never know where they were expected to be used by the airline, which routes? i'm not sure LN had really the need of this kind of aircraft capacity.

Which destinations?

Enjoy these photos ...

Brazil's Gain was Libya's lose, Varig was the one airline in Souh America which did need 747's.

Those pics look like postcard shots. Back in the Day when airlines gave out aviation/airline related promo material like free candy during Halloween. I believe if you can find said postcards with the LAA logo (aka authentic"), they may be worth a nice shiny copper.

This is exactly the picture I am talking about. So job done.

I also love the picture with the Flying Tigers B 747 in the background. I never saw them that silver-shining in FRA

Any idea of their current whereabouts? I did a search on airfleets, but it returned no results. Any other interesting aircraft stored in or near Tripoli?

Now, the same airliners 5A-DIJ and 5A-DIK but after the US embargo VS Libya, so the titles, logo and the Libyan flag were removed, then the Boeing titles were applied.

5A-DIJ

5A-DIK

If somebody has some more pics about these birds, would be happy to see them...

If someone has the info...
