I am dissapointed. I expected at least two points in the USA, and Iraq to be in list. I assume 2 of the last 3 destinations will be linked with one flight.

Perth was long expected from QR before SYD. Cant wait. I assume A332, if it can make it.

I read in the paper here in PER today that QR are planning to use the 77L for PER.

I would have thought that QR would have announced more UK destinations by now, eg BHX or EDI.

Good news for Zagreb! Wonder if it will be direct or will they link it with some other city. Maybe Skopje or maybe if Sofia or Bucharest can go independent and the same happen as with Budapest?

One problem for ZAG is that they do not fly to SYD...

DOH-PER is 9318km. There should be no problems there.

One stop to Croatia... only issue is that it juuussssttt stops a little short of the Dalmatian Coast   (SPU/DBV would have been nice  )

Zagreb would definitely be on the radar for an open-jaw trip in future however. Very interesting!

DOH-ZAG is narrowbody territory, yeah?

not a problem when the majority of the Croat and Serb diaspora in Australia is centred in the city they already fly to... MEL

FYI: the rule of thumb is basically this:

MEL - larger diaspora from Southern Europe: from Italy all the way through the former Yugoslavia to Greece. As well as South Asia (India/Sri Lanka) and S.E. Asia - Singapore & Malaysia in particular.
SYD - larger diaspora from the Middle East: Turkey, Lebanon & Egypt in particular & East and North Asia (China, Japan and Korea).

either city will have some from the rough groupings, but generally that's where the largest ethnic enclaves are respectively in MEL and SYD.

and PER? Brits! hah.

A route launch announcement of the calibre of SFO or LAX would warrant its own dedicated press release and conference along with some showbiz gala event. These cities do not hence for an expected LAX announcement for 2012, stay tuned because it will definitely help feed the massive planned expansion of QR's Iran bound flights in S12.

Great news for the East African Community, more businessmen and more tourists will enjoy the beauty of this Continent. While TK made an announcement last July for Kigali route, I was expecting Emirates faster than QR on those destinations, at least on MBA.

Very good move - tourist, business and NGO traffic abound here. Undeserved as well, I hear KLM does well on this route.

Now THAT'S a layover I want to have. I'm assuming this route is going A320? It'll be a nice reprieve those folks...the 320 crew really get shafted with their rosters at QR just by nature of the routes the 320 plies.

Long awaited, glad to see finally come to fruition.

I'd imagine US flights will be announced separately, I would be really very surprised if QR didn't expand westwards in the US in 2012.

Zanzibar, in Tanzania is a very interesting choice for QR. EK flies to Dar es Salaam (I forget if they use an A330 or a 777) which is a much larger airport. Kilimanjaro airport near Arusha is also much larger than Zanzibar, and sees heavy tourist traffic. Zanzibar is a very popular tourist destination, but most travellers probably fly to the mainland first before taking either the ferry or a plane to Zanzibar.
DAR-Zanzibar is a very quick flight-- the shortest commercial flight I've been on actually. Total flight time was about 10 minutes.

-EK flies actually A345 to DAR es Salaam, daily,

-QR flies twice a day however the first one in via NBO, so maybe they can re-route that flight.

-Oman Air also flies to DAR via ZNZ a few times a week.

-Ethiopian also flies to ZNZ, direct from ADD with Dash-8 (or they used to do, very late in the night) and also via DAR.

-Very big Arabian comunity in ZNZ and lot of cargo coming from Asia (China, Malaysia..) and Middle east.

-Kigali is a good choice, the country is going forward very fast, and more and more routes are added.

-Mombassa is a nice surprise, not many international regular flights.

-KQ is going to be hurt a lot in KGL, MBA and ZNZ.

While the details aren't out as of now, I foresee the new destinations operated as follows:

1) DOH - PER non stop B77L timings somewhat similar to MEL

2) DOH - HEL non stop using an A319LR

3) DOH - ZAG ... might be a non stop.

4) DOH - KGL should be going via EBB

5) DOH - MBA - ZNZ and v.v

Yes, in fact I had heard that ACC was to come online this December itself.

Those QR 319LRs are quite plush too. It'd be nice to fly an A319 on a medium haul flight. Just to try it out, you know?

I heard that as well with 4 weeklies A330 and someone did mention it is on the GDS..
I though they might add a tag on LOS or work as a triangle route DOH-LOS-AC-DOH

Next destinations, Suarabaya, beirut, paris, Accra

Another option from LHR to PER, just as long as they dont use the 3-4-3 setup some other carriers in the area and I might be tempted to try it out.

Any ideas of schedules yet for the routes?

I'll be very surprised if QR changes from their current 3-3-3 layout. Especially, now that they are advertising their 5-star skytrax airline of the year status.

Anyway, I love that they are starting PER, gives me a second option to get to OSL from PER one stop, with the only other option being TG. Now, if they joined Star Alliance I would be a very happy camper!
